The 37 000-hectare (91 429-acre) private Kulala Wilderness Reserve offers visitors exclusive wildlife-viewing opportunities which include the likes of gemsbok (oryx), bat-eared fox, brown hyaena and birdlife. Enjoy a coffee or sundowner stop in scenic parts of the reserve as a highlight.

World-famous Sossusvlei is both the name for the area in general as well as an enormous clay pan, flanked by immense sand dunes. Nearby, at the foot of some of these dunes the skeletons of trees dominate the landscape, where once water flowed. This is known as Dead Vlei.

This fascinating geographical formation is well worth a visit. The result of millions of years where water carved its way into the earth, Sesriem Canyon is today three kilometres long. Views from the top are breathtaking while walks through the canyon reveal distinct geographical layers which were laid down over aeons.

Walking trails focus on becoming immersed in this remote area, as well as its scenic beauty and the fascinating, and surprisingly, diverse array of insects, reptiles and rodents which make this dry and harsh region their home. The Tsauchab River Trail takes a stroll along the dry riverbed close by the camp.

Set out in the late afternoon for a nature drive and complete your excursion in a remote and dramatic spot on the reserve, sipping a gin and tonic while watching the sun set over the distant mountains or sweeping dunes.

Ideal for introducing your family to the natural wonders of Namibia, take in the sweeping scenery riding electric powered fat-wheeled bikes. A fun way to explore the spectacular open plains with your guide.

Taking in the beauty of the landscape and the wonder of nature. This area of the Namib Desert was largely unexplored before Namib's Valley lodge was built, so this arid landscape is completely unexplored!

The unguided hiking trails allow you to discover the rich variety of flora and fauna, unique to this area, at your own pace.

This afternoon excursion starts with a 20minutes drive on a game drive car to the staring point of the guided hiking tour and leads to the most interesting landscape of the farm, characterized by spectacular rock formations and fascinating vegetation. The experienced nature guide will explain the geological highlights of the Erongo mountains as well as the special vegetation of the area. The minerals found on the mountain - semi-precious stones like tourmaline and aquamarine are mined here - are just as much a subject as the rock paintings of the Bushmen. With some luck, giraffes, various antelope species or other animals can also be spotted.

On the way back, spectacular views including the sun setting behind the majestic Spitzkoppe mountain and amazing photographic opportunities are waiting. After having a sundowner on a beautiful place, another twenty minutes drive leads back to the lodge.

While the landscape does not support huge herds, desert-adapted life such as springbok, gemsbok and even elephant can be seen on nature drives which are topped off with a river lunch or scenic walk at "Little Table Mountain”.

Learn more about the survival strategies of the desert-adapted flora and fauna of this challenging environment. Adaptation to the desert environment is the miracle of all that survives here.

After dark, another realm of the Namib awakes. Walks reveal some of these captivating critters such scorpions which fluoresce under UV lights.

Visit the ancient San rock art engravings at Twylfelfontein, a World Heritage Site, as well as the Petrified Forest, Burnt Mountain and Organ Pipes, all unusual and incredible geological phenomena.

Back of house tours and camp chats about the Doro !Nawas Conservancy, the Damara/Nama language and traditions offer rewarding insights into the community, while the Damara Living Museum displays the traditional culture of the Damara people.

Sleep out on your veranda under the starry skies of the Namib. and be lulled to sleep by the evocative nocturnal sounds of Africa.

Namibia is known for its clear night skies, and with no light pollution this is the ideal spot from which to learn about the stars and planets that whirl above us.

A number of endemic bird species call Wilderness Doro Nawas’ rocky slopes and seemingly barren valleys home, such as Ruppell’s korhaan or Benuela long-billed lark.

Morning and afternoon game drives on the reserve are offered and can be booked beforehand or as the need arises while at the lodge. A 2-3-hour drive that gives you the opportunity to see anything from a wide variety of plains game or if you are lucky a run in with the occasional predator. Refreshments are included.

After an early dinner and depending on the weather we also offer night drives on the reserve. Different from day game drives by that you stand a chance to see some of the nocturnal species that roam our reserve. We look for all of them, from bugs to birds and maybe something bigger.

Guided walks are offered to the more adventurous. A short drive out, and then the fun starts as you experience a whole new way of finding and viewing animals. Be sure to follow every instruction your guide gives you and you will have a great time. Children aged 12 years and over may take part in a walking safari.

Keen on birding? We offer you the opportunity to spend some time in our hide, especially build for photography enthusiast or if you just want to go through the different species. Other than that we could take you on a short walk or to some of the other nearby waterholes.

Enjoy a lovely meal away from the lodge in the bush or hide. Weather permitting.

The Dream Cruiser is Onguma's newest and most unique under the stars sleep-out experience.

Arriving in time to enjoy sundowners and take a tour of your overnight accommodation, this sleep out in the wilderness of the reserve is on our custom built Land Cruiser, featuring a full bathroom on the lower deck and a bedroom with lounge area on the upper deck.

A night on the Dream Cruiser calls for al fresco picnic-style dining is delivered by our chef for you to enjoy as the evening turns to night and the stars dance in all their glory.
A ranger is on call via a two-way radio, so make the most of this time and relax in the safety and complete comfort of this unique space.

After a good night's rest, you can enjoy morning tea/coffee with homemade rusks before being collected for breakfast at the lodge.

Onguma's fabulous new water-level hide affords guests a great opportunity to calmly sit and enjoy nature unobserved. Amateur and professional photographers alike love the angles and light from this equipped hide.

There is a small ablution facility nearby, benches from which to view the surroundings and lots of windows and vantage points for creative camera angles.

Onguma Nature Reserve consists of 34 000 hectares of Namibian wilderness & is home to numerous plains game, more than 300 bird species ​and even 4 of the Big 5. ​The Reserve boasts over thirty different animal species. Plains game roam freely on the Reserve and predators although not always easy to spot, are nevertheless common residents of the area. Lions and Cheetahs are frequently seen and often heard. There is a healthy black rhino and leopard population and hyenas are also often seen and heard.

Etosha is a 22 750km² wildlife sanctuary in Namibia – one of Africa’s most stable and accessible countries. Etosha, meaning ‘place of dry water’, and refers to a flat calcrete depression (or pan) of about 5 000km². The ‘Pan’ (overlooked by the Onguma Reserve) provides a great, parched, silver-white backdrop of shimmering mirages to an area of semi-arid savannah grassland and thorn scrub. The pan itself contains water only after very good rains and sometimes for only a few days each year, but is enough to stimulate the growth of a blue-green algae which lures thousands of flamingos.

​Johan, our resident therapist, is a professional massage therapist with over 15 years experience, having lived and worked at renowned Wellness Centres in Asia and Africa. His passion for and dedication to massage therapy originated in the East, where he was trained and educated by the best teachers in their respective fields. Having the opportunity to spend considerable time with monks in Thailand, has also led him to incorporate focused awareness into his massage therapies. He has also upskilled three ladies from Onguma and they too are available and receiving great reviews!
