We have both land cruisers and land rovers available for game drives. Drives can be morning or afternoon. We recommend departing as early as possible around 6.30am with a picnic breakfast and back to camp for lunch for a siesta and dip in the swimming pool before heading out again around 4pm for an afternoon drive, all our game drives return by dark.
We can walk directly from the camp, the hilly terrain from camp makes for stunning scenery while out walking as well as a chance to get some good exercise. We often see elephant, impala, kudu and giraffe on our walks as well as plenty more flora and fauna. A walk is a great opportunity do discover many of the smaller details of the bush that you might miss while on a game drive.

Little has changed at Chada Katavi since the Nomad Tanzania founders arrived 20 years ago. From the air you have to look carefully to spot it, you'll find your eyes are immediately drawn to such wide open spaces. That's the promise of Katavi, total absorption into the natural world.
Chada Katavi is much the same camp that it was when it began - designed to be a stylishly simple bushcamp, small and intimate with just six East African safari tents. Each of them is spacious and comfortable with wide-open fronts giving you panoramic views of the plain and animal life that constantly comes and goes. In fact, you often don't have to leave your tent veranda to see game of all kinds. Elephant are frequent visitors, attracted to the same shady fruit trees as our guests, and vast herds of buffalo graze on the flood plain in front of camp.
Katavi is known for unbelievable game, with vast herds of buffalo roaming the plains; also elephant, lion, leopard, crocodiles and hippo. Chada Katavi offers game drives in open 4WD vehicles, night drives, fly camping under the stars, outstanding birding and viewing of big mammals, daily walking safaris.

Large, airy en-suite tents with a big verandah, twin or double beds with fresh linen and a pioneering style. There's a place to hang clothes, a bureau, chairs on the verandah on which to sit and enjoy the sounds and sights of the bush. Bathrooms are en-suite, and open to the canopy. Safari-style bucket showers lend a sense of adventure and help us keep our environmental footprint small in this area of scarce water. There's also an eco-flush toilet which is both convenient and uses 90% less water than a conventional toilet.
The tents are scattered among a grove of tall tamarind trees, which in turn attract monkeys, elephants and other wildlife. It's not uncommon to watch a herd of impala wonder by while you're enjoying a cup of tea on your verandah, or have an elephant walk past while you have a siesta.
Venture out for a night under the starry sky. Flycamping is a way of shedding amenities without being uncomfortable, and getting as close to nature as possible. The camp is set up by a small team, while you enjoy a guided bushwalk, arriving in time for sunset and a cold gin and tonic by the fire.
Tents are made of heavy duty netting, encasing a deep bedroll, made up with fresh sheets, cosy blankets and soft pillows, so quite comfy.
There's a safari style bucket shower and a short-drop toilet which is located a modest distance away. The camp is lit by paraffin lamps and there are torches and a scout who keeps any curious creatures at a distance.
You'll eat well. A three course dinner and good breakfast is standard (unless you're planning to walk back to camp in time for breakfast).
One night is the norm, and it's essential to pre-book if your interested in fly camping.

Bird Watching, Game Drives, Game Viewing, Game Walks, Night Drives, Safaris, Sleep Outs, Walks (Guided)
Set out to explore Katavi with Nomad Tanzania's expert guides. Game drives typically run in the early morning from dawn until late morning, and in the afternoon from 3:30pm to sunset. Full day game drives are also available but preferably as part of a privately guided safari as most activities are on a shared basis. Private guide and vehicle available if pre-booked and there is a supplement to be paid. Night drives are also possible from Chada Katavi and must be pre-booked.
There's walking and then there's real walking; bush walking in a good pair of boots where you want to keep going on and on. Katavi makes you feel like this, it might be something to do with the endless plains around you and vast open skies. Not to mention what you might see whilst you're out there.
With your guide, and an armed scout, along for the ride, you could find yourself watching elephants from up close marveling at how, despite their size, they can move so quietly; or be meandering along the river line seeing all the different birds around the pools, and crocs and hippos who are a big feature of Katavi life. Animals who would often take flight at the sound of a vehicle, won't even know you're there and that's what makes walking out here such an incredible experience.
Walk out from camp to your flycamp where you will spend a night out under the stars. You'll sleep in a mosquito netted tent, small but with enough room for a bedroll kitted out with soft mattress, sheets and a feather pillow. Nomad don't scrimp on the dining either; you'll sit down to a three-course candlelit meal and a glass of chilled wine. But, these are only the peripheral things, the backdrop to the main event. The whole point about flycamping is being out there at night, lying on your back looking up at the night sky through the roof of your netted tent; listening to the animal sounds, so different from those you hear during the day. Under the careful guard of your guide and armed ranger you can drift off to the bush lullaby and just take it all in.
Without sounding too dramatic, it is hard to imagine your life not being changed in even the smallest of ways after something like this.

Bushtops tents are simply extraordinary. Each boasts a hundred and twenty square metres of luxurious living space, providing ample room to wander at leisure, sink into a deck lounger, soak in your private hot tub or gaze out at passing wildlife. Spacious and beautifully furnished, each offers true five star luxury within a canvas canopy -- but with space and views no hotel could hope to match.
This is your personal realm, ideally suited to restful sleep, taking an open-air shower beneath the warm African sun, unwinding as you await drinks from your private butler, or perhaps purring under your masseuse's strong fingers, after an exhilarating day on safari. Solar power and a generator back up ensure constant electricity is on tap within your tent and across the camp. Due to our location, cellphone and wifi signals come and go, but you can always stay connected. Many prefer not to -- and we ask all our guests to keep their phones on silent, to keep the world at bay!
Our two family tents are perfect for bigger families, especially since they are linked by a bridge to create a private family suite.
("Jackal 1" & "Jackal 2", pictured here, are linked with a very short bridge while "Fox" and "Giraffe" are linked with a longer bridge)
Everyone over the age of seven is most welcome at Serengeti Bushtops, so we can add two children's beds to any tent. This means we can accommodate four adults and four children within the combined family suites. We can also add a single bed for a sharing adult, accommodating three people in any of our tents.

There are no better game viewing locations on earth than the Masai Mara and Serengeti.
We believe our converted 4×4 vehicles, expert guides and eagle-eyed spotters are without peer or parallel.
The combination makes any Bushtops safari simply unforgettable. This activity is included in the price for the ground package rate and is not included in the price for those who are paying for the full board package.
You leave Camp at around 6 am for a game drive en route to the walking venue at Wayo near Mara river. The walk takes around one hour and is accompanied by your Ranger and an armed Tanapa (Tanzania National Parks) Ranger, who’s expertise means you can safely approach herds of impala, zebra and giraffe. They will also spot and interpret the animals tracks left from the night before and identify the flora and fauna. All you need is a pair of good walking shoes and a sense of adventure!
After the walk you head back to Camp for breakfast or continue with your game drive.
(Please note that an indemnity form has to be signed before the walk)
Minimum age requirement for children on a walking safari is 16 yrs and above
Charge Per Person is USD 50
It’s a classic moment, immortalized in films, fantasies and a million great safari adventures: watching the sun set over the African bush. There’s simply nothing like it.
You may see a burnished disk slip gracefully from view. If not, the clouds will diffuse an amazing palette of colour, flooding the horizon.
Either way, you’ll be part of an incredible experience which will live on in your mind’s eye, for ever.
Serengeti Bushtops isn’t just the perfect place for a safari: it includes the ideal spot for a sundowner. We call it Simba’s rock. The reason is simple. Simba means lion and our favoured sundowner location is theirs too!
Needless to say, if they are there first, our advance team swiftly detours to prepare one of several alternative options. Usually, though, we’re able to look across the Serengeti plains from Simba’s Rock, watching the sun set on paradise.
Sundowners are private at Serengeti Bushtops, meaning they are exclusive to you as an individual, couple, family or group. The charge is 50 USD per person.
Sundowners can also be enjoyed for free in the privacy of your own luxury tent. Each tent has a sunken lounge or you could enjoy the sunset from your hot tub.
What a way to end the day!
There is nothing quite like soaring high above the herds in a hot air balloon, as the sun rises over Serengeti. If this prospect appeals, and you decide to add a balloon safari to your itinerary, do let us know in advance, so we can arrange a booking with our local hot air balloon operator, based near Kogatende.
You will be picked up from Serengeti Bushtops before dawn, ready to take off as the sun makes its appearance. The flight lasts an unforgettable hour, before your balloon is brought gracefully back to earth – and a celebratory Bush champagne breakfast.
You can then head off on a full day’s day game drive, or return to camp for a more leisurely morning and even a return to bed, to catch up on lost sleep.
Please note that a balloon safari lies outside your Serengeti Bushtops booking and our direct control: you should allow around US$550 per person for the flight.
If you are bringing younger members of the family with you, there's something new and exciting awaiting them at Bushtops. Our Bushcraft Challenge. This introduces youngsters to basic survival skills, local culture, the importance of conservation and (of course) local flora and fauna.
Activities include learning to make fire without matches or a lighter; completing animal spotting checklists (assisted by our rangers); identifying animal tracks and making a memento plaster cast of their favourites (we can even arrange to have a Bronze made out of your cast. This will be sent to you via courier); learning about animal bones; practicing archery; trying out bead making skills; baking Swahili cookies and more!
Completing the challenge leads to a Bushtops Bushcraft Certificate, authenticating unique skills and a sense of real achievement. This activity carries no additional cost.
Education is the greatest gift – and helping out local schools is very much part of the Bushtops way. It’s fundamental to our belief that luxury safaris must go hand in hand with care for the land, its wildlife and the communities who were there long before us.
Our local schools are proud of what we achieve together, so the headmaster or a teacher is always happy to give our guests a tour. In around 45 minutes you get to meet the students, see them in class and note some of the projects we’ve funded, built or worked on.
A visit always creates an unforgettable impression: it’s a captivating experience, seeing how children in less fortunate communities take every chance they can get to learn – creating new opportunities for their future.
To take part in a school visit, just let us know before you arrive. If not, we may still be able to arrange things once you join us. There is no cost.
Picture this: an early morning wake-up call, followed a mysterious drive into the wilderness. Then, as the sun rises and light
floods the landscape, you find yourself in an oasis of tranquility.
You hop from the truck to survey this wonderland. Moments later, your table awaits you. This is your Private Bush breakfast.
It’s highly unlikely that you have ever started the day in such a glorious location, or in such splendid isolation. No fellow diners: just you, our chef and your driver, serving a hot meal and an array of delicious buffet delicacies. A glorious day in the Bush has begun …
We recommend you pre-book your private bush breakfast with us before you arrive. The cost is 50USD per person – but the experience is priceless.
The perfect end to the perfect day: total privacy in your own illuminated corner of the darkening Serengeti. That’s what our Klipspringer dining experience delivers, within a setting of charm and intimacy.
The surrounding rocks, of the sort favoured by local Klipspringer antelope, form a natural amphitheatre, adding intimacy for honeymooners or families (the 130USD cost covers up to six people).
Within this magical haven, lanterns and a bonfire turn beauty into wonder, creating the ideal spot for a sumptuous meal, prepared by our executive chef.
As day turns to night in the Serengeti, has life ever been this good?!
When you visit us, we want you to be exhilarated by the wildlife, but relaxed by everything else. You can book an Aromatherapy or Deep Tissue massage with products from Terres d’Afrique.
As you contemplate the delights of the safari you have just completed or the dinner about to be enjoyed, what better way to let the cares of the world slip from your shoulders? These treatments and massages carry an additional cost.
During a full-day game drive your ranger will find a nice spot under a tree to set up a picnic lunch. Dining in the middle of nowhere with nobody to disturb you except for the noises of animals nearby also enjoying their lunch is an experience one cannot easily forget. This carries no additional cost.

It’s hard to imagine a better conclusion to an exhilarating day’s game viewing than being invited to a gastronomic experience, enjoyed within the harmonious comfort of our restaurant. With a campfire glowing outside, this is life in the bush at its most refined: the perfect place to end a perfect day, as the hot sun sinks slowly out of sight.

Mwiba Lodge comprises 10 spacious and elegantly appointed suites, complete with a king-sized bed with a mosquito net and air conditioning, a lounge area, an outdoor deck, and an en-suite bathroom with a deep-soaking tub and both an indoor and outdoor shower.
Each of the suites can be adjusted to either a king, twin or triple configuration.
ADJOINING SUITES:
Of the 10 tented suites, 2 pairs are adjoining and suitable to accommodate guests who are travelling together.
These particular tented suites have been connected by wooden walkways to allow easy access between the suites, thus making them ideal for families traveling with children. The walkway would not be suitable for children of toddler age to pass across unattended.
Please note, however, that due to the rocky nature of the lodge, it is not recommended that children younger than 10 years of age stay in the adjoining suite without an older sibling, parent or adult.
Each tented suite is identical in its layout, the standard of furnishings is consistent, and both suites have sufficient privacy. Should two couples or adult guests traveling together wish to be accommodated close to each other, these adjoining suites are also perfectly appointed to be used as such. We will only ever accommodate guests from a combined party in the adjoining pairs of suites.
CHILDREN SHARING:
If a triple configuration is required, the sofa in the lounge area of the tented suite can be made up as an additional single bed. This is suitable to accommodate a child of 15 years or younger. In the event that the sofa is used as a bed, a portable mosquito net is hung.
The lodge has a portable cot available which can be used for an infant of 2 years or younger. It comes with a fitted mosquito net.

As andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is situated in the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, game drives take a significant amount of time to reach the crater’s floor and return to the lodge. This means that you will most likely be offered the choice of one morning or afternoon game drive per day. You will descend into the crater through a lush highland forest, with magnificent birdlife to be spotted among the different tree species. Once on the grassy crater floor, you may discover a large variety of grazing herbivores, as well as the predators that are attracted by this abundant supply of prey. Depending on the time of year, you may see huge flocks of pink flamingo around the shores of the shallow Lake Magadi, while the surrounding swamp is inhabited by hippo. While the Ngorongoro Crater boasts an incredible abundance of wildlife, you will most likely also encounter a great number of other vehicles during the high season, especially at high interest sightings. On the other hand, the rainy season is much quieter, allowing for a far more private game drive. Safari vehicles are closed, with glass windows and a pop-up roof. Off-road driving is not permitted.
