Maltahöhe

Hammerstein Lodge is a gateway to the Namib in close proximity to the beautiful red dunes of Sossusvlei (60km from Sesriem). The area is renowned for its rocky outcrops of massive granite boulders and the lodge gets its name from one enormous rock that is shaped like a hammer. Hammerstein Lodge & Camp offers sundowner drives into the mountains, sightseeing flights as well as 4x4 trips to Sossusvlei on request.

Hammerstein is a lodge with camping facilities situated between Swakopmund and Lüderitz in Namibia. There are just three campsites set amidst lovely shady trees and water and electricity is available. Campers can make use of the lodge facilities which include a swimming pool and those who do not wish to self-cater can arrange to have their meals at the lodge. Visitors can enjoy nature drives into the surrounding areas and meet the caracals, cheetahs, and Lisa, the lodge’s famous leopard.

Replete with history and romance Duwisib castle is an ideal stopover for visitors' en route to the South of Namibia. It was built by the German army officer Baron von Wolf for his American bride Jayta in the early 1900s. Apart from being a gift of love, Duwisib Castle was a dream turned into reality for Baron von Wolf, who had planned on breeding horses in this semi-desert environment. Sadly, he was killed during the First World War. His wife left for America, never to return, leaving the castle and all of its contents and dreams behind.

In the local Koikoi language, Neuras means the 'place of abandoned water'. Neuras Estate owes its early existence as a farm to the presence of several crystal clear cold-water springs and dates back to 1894. Accommodation options at the Neuras Estates gives visitors a comfortable and ecologically sound way to enjoy the desert. Activities at Neuras is ideal for various enthusiasts such as wine connoisseurs, wildlife enthusiasts, hikers, geologists, as well as film and photography enthusiasts.

Maltahöhe was established in 1899 by Henning von Burgsdorff, previously an officer in the German Schutztruppe, the military force of the Imperial German occupation. Burgsdorff named the place after his wife Malta, – “höhe” refers to hill. Maltahöhe is situated in the central to southern part of Namibia close to the Swartrand escarpment. The Maltahöhe Hotel was established in 1907 which makes it the oldest country hotel in Namibia still partly operating in the original buildings. In earlier years Maltahöhe use to be the midpoint of the karakul sheep farming industry, but this branch of agriculture has shrunken due to lasting drought cycles and embargoes against the karakul fur/pelt trade. Maltahöhe is surrounded by vast portions of farm land that stretch all the way down into the Namib Desert and all along the protected areas of the Naukluft Park. Sheep and goat farming remain the commercial hub of the south. Visitors to Maltahöhe Hotel are always amazed to see a large collection of images and relics from a bygone era. The hotel is especially renowned for its warm hospitality, excellent food and cozy bar adorned by hundreds of memorabilia from across the world. Maltahöhe is a gateway to places and attractions such as Sesriem, Sossusvlei, Naukluft Park, Duwisib Castle, Lüderitz and the Fish River Canyon.

Tolou’s Lodge is situated 70 km west of Duwisib Castle. The lodge offers 15 twin bungalows, with private bathrooms. The restaurant and ladies bar cater for breakfast and dinner. At the lodge, guests can enjoy nature walks, take photographs, and a nature drive can be arranged for game viewing.

Situated on the edge of the beautiful Namib Desert, this is the perfect stop over on your way to Sossusvlei, Luderitz or Fish River Canyon. The main attraction in the area is Duwisib Castle. It is located within short walking distance of all our overnight facilities. The cosy and clean rooms will ensure a relaxing stay with views of the surrounding mountains.The campsites are well maintained and shaded by indigenous camethorn trees. Day visitors can also enjoy some refreshments at the coffee shop.Try our well known apple pie while watching tame ostriches from close by. With scenic views and beautiful camethorn trees it is no wonder that the Baron decided to build his castle at this special spot!

Located in Namib-Nauluft National Park, Namibia, Betta Camp offers guests a lovely camping experience amidst tranquil surroundings. The establishment features a campsite site which comes equipped with barbecue facilities, shaded seating areas and power points. A shared bathroom with hot water is available. Guests can enjoy breakfast and dinner at the nearby lodge restaurant with prior booking or cook meals using the barbecue facilities. The establishment also features a kiosk and coffee shop.

Zaris Ranch is situated at the foot of the Zaris Mountains. Ensconced in a lovely lush garden you will be accommodated in the 5 bedroom farmhouse. The house is fully furnished and furbished. Zaris is a working farm and offer the opportunity to experience farm life first hand. Ideal as a family hideout the children can enjoy horses, rabbits, chickens and goats. All the animals can be petted and fed.
Alternatively, Zaris offer the perfect spot where you can recuperate and regenerate from our hectic day to day lives.

The house may be rented as self-catering and we offer grocery delivery services. If you do not feel like cooking for yourself, a butler service can be pre-booked at an extra surcharge.

The historical old farm house is built out of natural stone, in German colonial style. Burgsdorf has a rich history dating back to 1899. The name of the Farm Burgsdorf comes from the 'Hauptmann' Von Burgsdorff who was the commander of the Gibeon district.
