Ulusaba Rock Lodge | Ulusaba Private Game Reserve

Ulusaba Rock Lodge in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve has a commanding position high on a rock koppie overlooking the bushveld below. Telescopes allow you to view the movements of game with surprising ease.

The lodge has a glamorous feel about it – there’s a strong element of theatricality about Rock Lodge, much like its owner, Sir Richard Branson of Virgin. So if you are into understated luxury then this lodge may not suit you!

There’s a choice of rooms, suites and private bush villas. All are decorated in luxurious African style with handcrafted furnishings and each has a private wooden deck with panoramic views. The four rock cliff rooms are stylishly designed, some on two levels. All have commanding views over the bush. . The two bedroom Rock Suite is ideal for families or three adults travelling together (but note that the second bedroom is much smaller and has a queen bed so children would need to share a bed). The two Makwela suites are exquisitely furnished with bedroom, sitting room, small study and outside a large deck with private plunge pool whilst the master suite is on three levels with its own infinity plunge pool.

The Cliff Lodge features two magnificent suites offering the ultimate in safari luxury. Cliff Lodge 1 has a private pool and a second bedroom for one adult or two children. It offers a spacious lounge with fireplace, separate kitchen and bar and also features a small spa, gym and an outdoor deck with a large pool. Cliff Lodge 2 has its own Jacuzzi with stunning views over the bush and also accommodates two adults and two children. If you take the two suites together as a private bush villa (450 sqm), you also have your own private chef and game vehicle for game drives.

The flamboyant exciting décor of Ulusaba Rock Lodge is coupled with unobtrusive service and an exceptional range of facilities: the swimming pool is a confection of cascading waterfalls and pools. To the side is a glass walled and well-equipped gym which has a stunning panoramic view of the bush. Between game drives you might opt to nurture body, mind and spirit in the ‘aroma boma’ with a range of indulgent body and beauty treatments. At the bottom of the hill there’s a tennis court with shaded viewing deck if you want to work off a bit of Ulusaba’s delicious food.

Children are very welcome with extra beds placed in the rooms for smaller children. Children of six and older are welcome to participate in game drives. Younger children can enjoy a shorter drive in an enclosed vehicle at your request. The lodge has a downstairs lounge which doubles as the unofficial children’s play area. Here there’s a TV with wildlife DVDs, loads of toys and board games on offer.
