Located just outside Maun, Discovery Bed & Breakfast offers accommodation in a small African village-style setting. Guests can explore the nearby Thamalakane River and enjoy local birdlife and wildlife sounds. The property features chalets and traditional thatched rondavels, each with mosquito-netted beds and private shower facilities, some outdoors. A coffee shop and bar provide refreshments, while a swimming pool offers a place to cool down or relax. A dedicated Wi-Fi area is available for guests. Evenings may be spent around the fireplace, sharing travel stories or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings and blend of Tswana and Dutch hospitality.

Feeling adventurous? Then join us on an authentic African adventure that takes you deep into the heart of the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and natural wonder of epic proportions. From the low vantage point of a dugout canoe – known locally as a mokoro ­– you’ll experience a local tradition that has defined the way safaris are run in the Okavango Delta. Accompanied by polers, who share their local heritage and in-depth knowledge of the area and its flora and fauna, you will enjoy a privileged insight into this otherwise inaccessible wilderness.

Our mokoro trails into the Okavango Delta range from a half-day excursion up to five nights camping out under the vast African sky. As you explore the idyllic channels, lagoons and remote islands, our knowledgeable guides share insight into the wild and wonderful world around you. The guides have a wealth of knowledge of the area and eagerly share the stories of their people and related folk-tales. Their first-hand experience of the area’s wildlife is an incredible gift they readily share, as they pole along the unspoiled waterways.

Trail Accommodation

For guests choosing the overnight or multiple night trails, the campsites are operated on an ecologically sensitive basis. The camp is set up before the guests’ arrival on the island. To reduce our ecological footprint amenities are kept to a minimum: guests are accommodated in dome tents. These are made up with roll mat beds, a sleeping bag and a pillow per person. Washbasins are provided outside each tent. Bush showers and toilets are set up close by. We request that guests keep using shampoo and body wash/soap to a minimum while on the trail. Meals are served at a table with chairs or served around a campfire. There is a camping chair per guest to use around the campfire and at the guest’s tent.

The camp is built at the foot of the Great Tsau Hill in a 40,000-hectare (98,842 acres) private concession, within the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The Great Tsau Hill is the only topographical relief in the entire 50,000km2 CKGR, offering spectacular panoramic views over the savannah.

The CKGR offers diverse animal and plant life in the semi-arid land, making it an ideal complement to the rest of the Roots & Journeys collection. Look out for brown hyena, aardvark, Kalahari lions, aardwolves, gemsbok, springbok and bat-eared foxes.

Adventures are focused on game drives, night drives, authentic bushmen experiences, e-bike safaris, and walking trails.

The bush holds many secrets if you know how and where to look! Your Nature Host will point out tracks and signs of animals, insects, birds, trees and many other fascinating aspects of this unique environment, with the potential of big game sightings in the company of an experienced guide. Approx. 2-3 hours. (Children 12 years and older).

Spend some time getting to know and learning more about the family's daily routine. This could include spoor identification, animal tracking, food gathering, trapping, hut building, craft making, games, making fire and finishing the day experiencing a trance dance. Planning these experiences are done at the lodge taking into account the San Family’s daily routine.
