MACq 01 Hotel is a storytelling hotel set on Hobart’s historic waterfront. Each of the 114 rooms is inspired by a Tasmanian character whose story is not just told but radiates through individual room design. Bernacchi House is at the northern tip of Maria island in the World Heritage-listed settlement of Darlington. It was built in 1843 for Reverend Thomas Dove and his wife and was acquired by an enterprising 19th-century Italian settler, Diego Bernacchi in the mid-1880s. Bernacchi established a small cement works on the island and also planted a vineyard but that proved to be unsustainable.
Although it has since been restored, Bernacchi House still rests on a foundation of red bricks handcrafted by convicts on the island. Your last night is spent here.

The hotel staff can help plan visits to the Freycinet Marine Farm or advise on mountain biking and kayaking in the surroundings.
