Within the Addo Elephant National Park is a range of chalets offering comfortable accommodation. There's a chalet that accommodates either two adults and two children or three adults. The chalet is a bedsitter with two single beds and a sleeper couch, all in the same area. There are no separate bedrooms. The chalets are air conditioned, and have fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms (with bath and shower). Two chalets are adapted to accommodate paraplegics.

The semi-detached chalet can only sleep two people. Each unit contains two single beds (together) with a shower, toilet and hand basin. The kitchenette is equipped with a bar-fridge, two-plate stove, microwave oven, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils. The units are airconditioned.

The family chalet can sleep a maximum of six persons. This unit is made up of one bedroom with a double bed and a bedsitter area, comprising of two single beds and a sleeper couch. The bathroom leads off the bedsitter area. Each unit has an equipped kitchen and air conditioning.

Five Shy Meerkat Tours – Original Tours Since 2004
The most popular of our activities we offer are without a doubt the daily wild habituated meerkat tours. These tours that commence only at sunrise are dependent on fair weather, since these little creatures will not venture outside their burrows on cold and rainy days. (No tours on rainy days & Christmas day).

Meerkats are part of the so-called Shy 5 which also includes the bat-eared fox, the aardvark, porcupine and aardwolf.

The meerkat tours last between 2-3 hours and booking is essential. Upon arrival at the meerkat burrows, guests are treated to a hot cup of coffee, after which they are issued with a lightweight aluminium chair to sit in while observing the meerkats as they come out of the burrow into the sunshine and then go about their daily routine of foraging and frolicking. These habituated wild animals are never fed or handled by humans.

Tours are presented by JD Glinister, and his team. It is a fantastic experience & unique privilege to get this close to these little creatures in the wild.

De Zeekoe has all the “ingredients” for a great restaurant: a beautiful setting with great views; skirted by an expanse of lawn and views of the Outeniqua mountains.

At De Zeekoe our food philosophy is using fresh, local ingredients and preparing them simply delicious and deliciously simple. Fresh herbs are picked daily from our garden and used in most of the dishes we serve. We prepare and produce our own olives and honey (when in season).

In the kitchen we prefer homemade products as far as possible. We make our own olive paste, bake bread and prepare our own sauces. The produce we can’t make or grow ourselves, we source locally. Since the area is known for its ostriches, we try and do our best to introduce this very healthy and delicious meat to our guests.

On this menu we strive to provide a balanced variety of meals, taking into account the dietary needs of all our guests. Included are gluten free vegetarian options made with superfood, that can replace any type of meat, even on a meat lovers plate! We continually test new recipes and new ideas to keep our menu fresh.

Although the spring water reaches the surface at 43°C, it fills our pools at different temperatures due to the distance it needs to travel. This means that, whilst we do not have control of the water temperatures, depending on where you choose to relax, there will be a pool to suit your needs. Since the water undergoes its own filtration process forcing its way up through layers of rock strata, very little is done on our side to change it. The water at Avalon Springs is 100% clear and clean with a near-perfect pH. For hygiene reasons, the water is not recycled and is continuously drained. It is also moderately chlorinated in the evenings.

Established in 2023, our dedicated pool bar, Daisie’s Cove, is just the place to kick back with something crisp while the kids make a splash. Settle in for an afternoon sundowner, and you'll soon delight in the arrival of our local dassies venturing out onto the lawns to eat. This is just the spot to top up on fresh juice after a session in the hot springs – and perhaps even a quick bite from the menu.

It is Halaal-friendly in that we source our meat from a Halaal-certified butcher, and any pork-based products are prepared and served from a separate kitchen. No alcohol is used in the preparation of our dishes. However, alcoholic beverages are served in the restaurant. All our wines at Cogman's have been carefully sourced from farms in the vicinity of Montagu within a 50km radius, including Ashton, Bonnievale, Mac Gregor, Montagu, and Robertson.

It's the perfect corner to curl up, savour an afternoon cuppa or a pre-dinner drink, and catch up with loved ones. While spending your holiday enjoying the hot springs at Avalon, be sure to set aside a day to explore the historic town of Montagu. Winner of the Kwela Western Cape 'Dorpie van die Jaar' in 2022, and KFM's 'Dorpie van die Jaar' in 2021, Montagu is jam-packed with culture, heritage, and, most importantly, excellent food and wine. Don't skip the Montagu Museum, Nature Gardens, and the Montagu Cellar. The Montagu Park Market runs every Saturday at Euvrard Park on Bath Street.

A favourite Badskloof walking trail leads between the hot springs and Eyssenhuis/Ou Meul at Joubert Park. This trail extends for a manageable 2.2km and takes approximately one hour. Permits are available from Reception or the office at Joubert Park. A few metres from Avalon Springs is a staircase climb leading up to the cave just above the resort, where the views are certainly worth the climb! Another popular option is the Aasvoëlkraans Route, which begins on Riebeeck Street in Montagu, covering only 3.2km and taking just over an hour to complete. Other Popular walking and hiking options nearby include Lovers Walk, Bloupunt, and the Cogmanskloof Trail.

The great thing about the Western Cape for golf enthusiasts is that no matter where you go, you are usually in close proximity to a course. As luck would have it, Avalon Springs is just a short drive from the nine-hole Montagu Golf Club. Play a round of golf with the majestic Langeberg Mountains as a panoramic backdrop.

A stone's throw from Avalon Springs is the Breede River Valley, where outdoor activities abound. Take your pick from hiking, fishing, sailing, and river cruises. Our Avalon Springs staff are always on hand to help you book – particularly the River Goose boat trip. Of course, you could always dabble in some wine tasting at Viljoensdrift whilst tucking into a picnic basket packed with treats from their deli.

The Avalon Springs team can also help you book a tractor ride at Protea Farm. With ample seating in large trailers, you'll amble up to 1,500 metres above sea level for the most exquisite views of the Langeberg Mountain range and over the top of Robertson. This experience includes a fantastic potjiekos meal, with more than enough wine, juice, coffee, and tea included, not to mention plenty of dried fruit and nuts to snack on, proudly sourced from the Montagu district.

Montagu has rapidly become a mecca for mountain bikers. The town even boasts an annual MTB fun ride held in August. Various routes are easily accessible through the Langeberg wilderness area. You can use the Montagu MTB map as a guide to the best trails, with new ones added all the time. This region is a special place for a family ride, with inspiring mountain views, rugged terrain, and unique rock formations.

Cactusberry Lodge offers the charm of an old Victorian townhouse with modern comforts. The bed and breakfast accommodation establishment is situated just a stroll away from the city buzz, as well as restaurants and shops. The lodge is located in Oranjezicht, and features six en suite guest rooms, with ceiling fans and heating. The old courtyard is a haven of serenity, with a braai area and a splash pool to recover from the summer heat. There is a large comfortable guest lounge upstairs, with a TV.

The lounge leads out to a large sun deck, where guests can enjoy the breathtaking view of Table Mountain. Sun downers can be enjoyed on the large sundeck with a stunning view of the mountain.
