For those with a bit more time, Zanzibar or the coast north or south of Dar es Salaam is a wonderful extension to explore the rich culture and dangle your toes in the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. Other nearby options include trekking to see the Mountain Gorillas or perhaps more safari time in Southern Tanzania or Kenya! Many of these extensions can be accessed with a direct flight from the Serengeti!
