Day 2: Uruguay

Upon arrival in Montevideo, you will clear immigrations & customs then will be met by a member from Estancia Ninette. You will have about a 3 1/2 hour road transfer to the lodge arriving in time for an afternoon hunt.

Days 3 - 5: Uruguay

These will be three full hunting days with morning perdiz hunts and afternoon dove hunts.

This trip offers true combo hunt for dove and perdiz.  Perdiz will be hunted behind Hectors excellent Brittanys. You will be hunting two hunters and one dog handler per dog. Perdiz are usually found in singles and occasionally you may find them in pairs but they do not covey up like quail.  We will hunt the Perdiz until late morning then return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta. We will try and arrange the pace of the trip around the group.

Our afternoons will be spent hunting doves going to roost.  Our target is the eared dove, which is very similar to our mourning dove in the states.  This is high volume shooting and in a typical afternoon you can expect to shoot 15-30 boxes of shells.  Shooting is close in so a modified or improved choke is good.

A Typical Day

A typical day begins with a wake-up call at 7:00 a.m. and a full breakfast is served.  You will depart for the perdiz shoot around 8:00 a.m.  Wake-up calls and departure times may vary a little, depending on the time of year and where you will be hunting that day.  Most drives to the perdiz fields are 10-30 minutes from the lodge. Once the group arrives at the selected field, hunters will split into pairs with a guide/dog handler, a dog and after a brief safety overview, the dog will then begin to work areas in search of perdiz. It is very much like quail hunting so you will need to keep your partner in mind when swinging on a flush. We normally hunt for a few hours or until each person get their limit of 10 perdiz.

After the perdiz hunt concludes, we will transfer back to the lodge to relax for a bit before lunch. For lunch, we will enjoy grilled steaks, sausage, pork, fresh salads, bread and desserts.  Water, soft drinks, and excellent local beers and wines round out the meal. After a large meal like this, most will want to take a nap for an hour or so. Once everyone gets a siesta, we will enjoy a coffee then head out to the dove fields for an afternoon dove hunt.

Depending on how the birds are flying, your afternoon drive will be between 10-40 minutes to the field.  Some afternoons, you will shoot the doves going back to the roost.  Shooting should be very good, with the birds coming in flocks very fast and furious.  Shooting lasts until late in the afternoon, generally between 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.  After the shoot, the group will drive back to the lodge where there will be time for a drink and a hot shower before dinner.

This is the itinerary followed on the full hunting days.  The last day in the hunt area, the group will shoot all morning and return to the lodge for lunch.  There is time to pack and rest up before we transfer to Montevideo to catch your overnight flight back to the US. You will arrive back in the US early the following morning and connect with your flight home.
