Nkwali Camp

Many destinations describe themselves as one of Africa's last great wildernesses, but South Luangwa National Park more than lives up to the claim. The Luangwa Valley is a vast, unspoilt landscape where meandering rivers, ancient woodlands and open plains support one of the continent's richest concentrations of wildlife. Famed for its exceptional walking safaris and extraordinary leopard sightings, it remains one of Africa's most authentic safari destinations.

Nestled on the banks of the Luangwa River, Nkwali enjoys a spectacular setting on a sweeping bend overlooking the National Park. From camp, guests can often watch elephants crossing the river, pods of hippo wallowing below and, on occasion, leopards moving silently along the opposite bank. Located on Robin Pope Safaris' private land just outside the park, Nkwali also benefits from a private game viewing area behind camp and exclusive access into the National Park by boat or, during the dry season, via the iconic pontoon crossing.

The six spacious thatched chalets are thoughtfully positioned to maximise privacy and uninterrupted river views. Designed in a classic safari style, each chalet features comfortable interiors, a private veranda and an open-air en-suite bathroom, creating a seamless connection with the surrounding wilderness.

Nkwali is the original Robin Pope Safaris camp and has welcomed guests for decades with its relaxed atmosphere, warm hospitality and outstanding guiding. Combining understated elegance with genuine authenticity, it offers an unforgettable safari experience and an ideal base from which to explore the remarkable South Luangwa National Park.
