Depart from the lodge and cross Lake St Lucia by boat from the Western Shores to the Eastern Shores (weather permitting). Your guide meets you on the other side and leads a game drive to the beach, where you enjoy the uninhabited shoreline and a picnic lunch in the forested sand dunes. In the afternoon a game drive returns you to the lodge, completing a day that combines lake, wetland, wildlife and ocean safari.

2. Makakatana Boat Safari
Full Day Boat and Western Shores Wetland Safari
Depart the lodge at approximately 08h30 for a game drive through the wetlands to the St Lucia Estuary Narrows. Here your skipper collects you aboard the Makakatana boat for a leisurely exploration of the Estuary in search of hippo, crocodile, birdlife and other wildlife. Afterwards, a short game drive leads to a scenic bush picnic before you return to the lodge in the afternoon.

3 Makakatana Eco Boats
On the morning of departure, weather permitting, guests can enjoy an optional eco-boat trip directly from the lodge. Our two silent, battery-powered boats offer a peaceful and immersive way to explore the lake, with wonderful opportunities for close-up hippo and birdwatching.
