The Hide Safari Camp
The Hide's story begins when the late Tom Preston and his wife, Lorraine, came across a beautifully diverse area in an eastern corner of Zimbabwe's biggest national park in 1992 and saw that special connections could be made here – not only with the wildlife and its habitats, but with each other – the families and friends who love it as much as they did.
And so it is, as one of the best-loved safari camps in Hwange, that The Hide invites guests to experience the most powerful connections – through nature – to each other, to the community, to the animals and birds and to the protection of all of this. The Preston family, today, continues to find ways to offer life-enriching safari experiences for our guests, from fantastic game viewing right on your doorstep, to a range of daily activities and the warm and welcoming staff, who make you feel like family from the minute you arrive.
Get up close to the wildlife that frequents the waterhole from the Underground Hide, accessible from right in front of the main 'A-frame' or enjoy the views from your private veranda overlooking the vlei line and waterhole. Keep your binoculars on hand, as elephant, lion and buffalo can often be seen satisfying their thirst.
Get together with your favourite people in one of our exclusive use sections of the camp – Tom's Little Hide or The Private Hide. For those who are a little more adventurous, The Dove’s Nest Treehouse is available at no extra charge. Located 10 minutes away from camp, this wildly romantic sleep out has the perfect vantage point from which to view wildlife safely and quietly – all in the space of your own little sanctuary.
After an exhilarating day of game viewing, you can retreat to the cool refuge of the camp’s swimming pool and enjoy delicious meals savoured al fresco or under the A-frame thatch in the dining room.
Everywhere you are in this special camp, there's an opportunity to connect in up-close and powerful ways. We look forward to welcoming you soon!
