Kaingo - The camp of the leopard

Located deep within the South Luangwa National Park, in an area renowned for leopard, Shenton Safaris Kaingo Camp offers six tranquil thatch rooms nestled discretely along the banks of the Luangwa River. The spacious and beautifully styled rooms feature comfortable king size beds, solar powered charging points and fan, indoor shower and indulgent outdoor bathtub.

Kaingo's First House is the perfect option for couples wanting a little extra luxury and privacy. Situated at the end of the camp, the suite features a master bedroom with adjoining lounge (which can be made into a second bedroom for families). A spacious ensuite bathroom with huge indoor rain shower is accessed from the master bedroom, with a separate washroom conveniently located off the lounge.  Guests can also enjoy the additional outdoor shower and bathtub, taking in the sights and sounds of the river. The suite also comes with its own private guide & vehicle, butler service and the option of private dining.

Hospitality is warm and down-to-earth, with the friendly and professional camp teams always on hand to make sure you are well looked after. Of particular note is the refreshing cuisine, which is not your typical heavy game lodge fare. Instead, fresh and light meals are served, using home-grown organic produce from the camp’s very own veggie garden.

Three of our world-famous hides are just a short drive from the camp.  The towering Elephant Hide, sited at an ancient elephant crossing point on the river; the Hippo Hide, built into the riverbank and offering a breath-taking, eye-level perspective of our resident hippo pod; and the Carmine Bee-Eater Hide, available from early September once the Carmines have established their nesting sites. Each year huge colonies of these beautiful, vibrant birds flock to the Luangwa bringing colour to the drying bush as they busily burrow, deep into the riverbanks to nest. An absolute must for birders, photographers and anyone who loves nature!

To complement your stay at Kaingo, a night in the Elephant Hide sleepout offers you the ultimate wilderness experience. Imagine drifting off to sleep, safely and comfortably tucked away high in the treetops, then waking to bird song, the river sparkling and the bush coming to life as the sun rises. Complete with a full-size bed, mosquito net and all the amenities needed for an evening under the stars, this is a fabulous experience you will cherish forever.
