Wilderness Qorokwe

Place: The exclusive Qorokwe Private Wilderness Area encompasses over 26 180-hectares (over 64 692-acres) in a diverse habitat area of the south-eastern Okavango, bordering the renowned Moremi Game Reserve. The name Qorokwe means 'the place where the buffalo broke through the bush into the water' evoking the high-density game area in which this camp is situated. It owes its productivity to a mix of habitat types that lie between its western and eastern borders: the Santantadibe and Gomoti Channels respectively.

Wildlife: The Qorokwe Private Wilderness Area comprises various biomes, from scattered acacia woodland with herds of giraffe, zebra and various plains game – to pristine floodplains being home to curious red lechwe, and mud-encrusted buffalo bulls; whence the name Qorokwe is derived: "The place where the buffalo broke through the bush into the water". Besides the resident lion pride, elephants are a feature of this classic Okavango Delta setting.

Accommodation: Wilderness Qorokwe combines a compelling contemporary style with a classic Okavango Delta setting. Its nine elegant tents (including one very spacious family unit with a private plunge pool) invite guests to move easily from the chic interiors to the natural airy exterior. The whole camp, including the magnificent main area, are well shaded and catch the prevailing breeze whilst overlooking a quintessential Delta lagoon. Elevated walkways offer guests spectacular vantage points of the surrounding wilderness while wildlife is still able to move freely through camp. Additionally, its infinity pool is a focal point for the expansive views.

Purpose: In addition to Wilderness Qorokwe’s commitment to a light carbon footprint, including 100% solar-generated power, this camp plays an important role in the empowerment of local communities through job creation and other income-generating opportunities. Through its community-held concession lease, Wilderness Qorokwe’s staff are employed largely from within the community.
