Los Colibris Casitas

We love this property so much that it is not only where we built our hotel, but our home as well. We chose this location on the side of the hill because of its incredible natural beauty. As with our home, every casa and casita of Los Colibris has truly magnificent views of the Pacific ocean and the palm grove oasis. We often not only see whales from our beds and terraces, but we can hear the great whooooshes as they spout air upon surfacing, and the incredible splashes as the males indulge in whale-tail smackdowns to impress passing females. We are often delighted to see manta rays leaping across the ocean’s surface, and we can hear the flap, flap, flap of their bodies connecting with the ocean just to get ready to soar again.

The grounds of Los Colibris are filled with both native plants and those imported by missionaries and other early Baja travelers, and this abundance of plant life attracts many kinds of birds, including the colibris or hummingbirds for which the property is named, as well as species endemic to Baja California Sur such as the Gray Thrasher, Belding’s Yellowthroat and Xantus’s Hummingbird. Over 150 bird species have been recorded in the area around Los Colibris. We have pubished two books celebrating the plants and birds on the prpoerty, Birding in Baja California Sur and Baja Blooms: The Gardens of Los Colibris Casitas, both featuring the amazing photographs of Kaia Thomson.

Todos Santos is an artists colony, and Los Colibris reflects the vibrant creativity of the town, with works by local and visiting artists throughout the rooms and grounds, including the Fish Bench and Sierra Mandala sculptures by Wes Horn, Studies in Red and Blue by Steve Thurston, Paseo del Mar and La Montana Brilliante by Jill Logan, Iker's Colibris Cafe mosaic sign by Donna Billick, Los Colibris Mosaic by Tami Zweig and the Santa Barbara School of Mosaic Art, Mangrove Montage by Tori Sepulveda and her art class, Gourd Sconces by Scott and Maria Cole, Heaven on Earth print by Jos Sanchez, Untitled Study by Erick Ochoa, La Casita by Nanette Hayles and so much more. And it is so easy to find these artists and so many others just a few minutes drive from Los Colibris Casitas.

We started building Los Colibris in 2004, added the pool and hot tub in 2010 and in 2014 built Iker’s Colibris Café to offer breakfasts and cooking classes for our guests with Chef Iker Algorri. In 2017 we completed Babisuri House, a beautiful rammed earth construction with 3 large, wheel-chair accessible suites. We also own and operate Todos Santos Eco Adventures so we will happily arrange activities for you including hiking, kayaking, surfing, bird watching, horseback riding, rock climbing, fishing, whale watching, snorkeling with sea lions, swimming with whale sharks, sea turtle camp, visits to mountain potters – and more! We also own and operate Camp Cecil, our luxury tent camp on Isla Espiritu Santo, which is a great choice for people who like to be thoroughly spoiled in thoroughly unspoiled nature. Espiritu Santo is actually where we met, fell in love, and started spinning the dream that is now Los Colibris Casitas, Todos Santos Eco Adventures and Camp Cecil. We hope you’ll come do a little Baja California dreaming with us.
