The Pangolin Chobe Hotel

Photo Safari Activities

(INCLUDED)

The Pangolin Chobe Hotel offers exceptional morning and afternoon photographic safaris in Chobe National Park, led by highly experienced guides with an intimate knowledge of the park and a deep understanding of wildlife photography.

Chobe is one of Africa's premier wildlife destinations, celebrated for its remarkable game density and spectacular sightings throughout the year.
The park is home to the world's largest concentration of elephants, as well as hippo, crocodile, predators and an incredible diversity of birdlife, providing outstanding opportunities for photographers of every skill level.
Guests enjoy two specialised safari experiences: river-based excursions aboard the custom-designed Pangolin Photo Boats, featuring eight rotating seats and camera gimbals for unrivalled photographic opportunities, and land-based game drives with a maximum of four photographers per vehicle to ensure ample space and unobstructed views. While both experiences are included, the Chobe River is the region's defining attraction, so activities are primarily water-based, with guests typically enjoying a ratio of approximately three river safaris for every one game drive.

This balance allows guests to experience the park from two unique perspectives, combining close-up river encounters with rewarding land-based explorations, and perfectly complements other regional safari destinations that focus exclusively on game drives.

Pangolin Photo Boats

The Pangolin Photo Boats are custom-designed safari boats created specifically for wildlife photographers, offering one of the finest photographic experiences on the Chobe River. Their shallow-hulled design allows them to quietly navigate close to the riverbanks, providing unique perspectives of wildlife that are difficult to achieve from land. Each boat accommodates just eight guests in individually mounted, 360-degree rotating seats, ensuring every photographer has an unobstructed view. Every seat is equipped with a custom-built camera gimbal, allowing large telephoto lenses to be supported effortlessly for smooth, stable shooting. The open design provides unrestricted movement and excellent visibility, while the experienced skipper and photographic guide carefully position the boat for optimal lighting, backgrounds and wildlife behaviour. Encounters regularly include elephants swimming between islands, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, vibrant birdlife and predators visiting the river's edge, creating exceptional photographic opportunities in a comfortable and purpose-built environment.
