Ngorongoro Crater Camp, an A&K Sanctuary

The big-sky drama of the Serengeti plains unfolds in front of the new hillside setting of recently refreshed Ngorongoro Crater Camp. Epic game-viewing excursions in the largest inactive volcanic caldera on earth – home to more than 25,000 animals, including all of the Big Five – are the main draw here. The camp’s authentic open-to-the-wild design means it also offers a fully immersive classic safari experience beyond the caldera; and with just 10 refined tented suites, it has an intimate feel. Herds of giraffes regularly roam past, plus there’s superb seasonal viewing of thundering herds of wildebeest moving across the acacia-dotted plains – as well as the stealthy predator activity that comes with it. Experiences might also include a visit to an authentic Maasai boma and trips to Ndutu Plains, the Great Migration calving ground from December to March. Sunsets at this elevated spot are particularly spectacular, marked each day with refreshing sundowners in and around camp where the circular bar means 360-degree views. The light-touch tented suites – now bigger and even more comfortable – were built with privacy and quiet luxury in mind, while sustainability was a core design principle: not a tree was felled in the construction, and Maasai community members played an integral role throughout the build.
