CULTURAL EXTENDED LESOTHO DAY TOUR (9 HOURS)
Depart from Underberg at 08h00 (or collection on route, if applicable) in a 4X4 vehicle travelling up the Sani Pass, stopping at breath-taking view sites and the two border posts. Once we reach the summit, we stop for tea at Sani Top Church and meet the locals, we then travel 20 km into Lesotho, up Black Mountain and over and down into the beautiful Sehonghong Valley for a further 30km comfortable meander and just before entering Mokhotlong we visit a local Sangoma who is a traditional healer and story teller – a really awesome stop for all of our guests.
A further 10 km on we arrive at the remote trading town of Mokhotlong (once known as the most remote outpost under the British Empire). Here you see Donkeys carrying goods to and from homesteads with all sorts of items on their backs. The main street is full of local Basotho folk trading their goods. A great place for photographing Basotho traders. Get to see the rare Spiral Aloe (Lesotho’s National plant), have a look at the old buildings and get to see how the Basotho folk do business at a local market.
Here we enjoy lunch at a local Basotho venue – Mosito Guest Village. After lunch we return through the scenic Sehonghong Valley over Black Mountain Pass and back to the Lesotho Border Post to enter back in South Africa via the Sani Pass to arrive in Underberg around 17h30.
