Bijagua Rainforest Tours / Costa Rican Typical Cousine Tour

Our Costa Rican Typical Food Tour offers an authentic gastronomic experience on a traditional farm, where visitors can explore a typical Costa Rican house and learn about the daily life and tools used by a local “Ama de Casa” (housewife). The tour is available in two sessions: Morning Tour (8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.): Guests will prepare traditional “Empanadas” and “Tortillas” from scratch alongside the housewife. You'll cut fresh ingredients, learn the cooking process, make hand-pressed tortillas, prepare traditional Costa Rican coffee, and even learn how to make local cheese. Afternoon Tour (2:30 p.m.): This session focuses on the preparation of traditional Costa Rican “Tamales,” made with corn dough, potatoes, rice, vegetables, and a choice of pork, chicken, or vegetarian filling, all wrapped in banana leaves. While the tamales cook for about an hour in boiling water, guests can prepare tortillas and empanadas, enjoy a farm walk, and learn more about rural Costa Rican life. Once finished, the tamales are ready to enjoy, ideally accompanied by fresh coffee or the sweet sugarcane drink “Aguadulce.” This tour is a hands-on cultural experience perfect for food lovers who want to connect deeply with Costa Rica’s culinary traditions and rural lifestyle.
