At Mababe, sundowners are thoughtfully curated: comfortable seating, lanterns glowing softly as darkness falls, and your guide sharing stories of the land. It’s not just a drink; it’s a memory being made—an unforgettable close to a day on safari.

Game drives - Mababe
(INCLUDED)
Game drives begin at our base nestled along the lush Khwai River, one of the most rewarding and biodiverse areas in the region. This riverine environment, alive with birdlife and a constant presence of game, offers exceptional wildlife sightings right from the outset.
From this vibrant starting point, we gradually move into the varied terrain of mixed acacia and Mopane woodlands. These habitats support a different mix of wildlife and offer opportunities to track elusive species such as wild dogs, lions, and leopards in more shaded, cover-rich areas.
We then make our way into the dramatic expanse of the Mababe Depression — a vast, open landscape reminiscent of the great plains of East Africa. This area is characterised by sweeping vistas and immense skies, where herds of zebra, buffalo, and occasionally eland or tsessebe can be seen grazing.
Throughout the drives, we make regular stops to observe wildlife, interpret tracks, or simply soak in the beauty of the wilderness — always ensuring safety and minimal disturbance to the animals. These pauses also offer chances to enjoy refreshments, stretch your legs, and learn more about the ecology and history of this remarkable area from our expert guides.

Mababe Village
During your stay , your journey will take you through the heart of the Mababe village—a unique and deeply authentic community nestled at the edge of one of Botswana’s most pristine wilderness areas.
As you pass through, your guide will share insights into the daily life of the villagers, whose existence is intimately tied to the rhythms of nature and the land around them. Living so close to the wilderness brings both blessings and burdens. On one hand, the community benefits from its proximity to one of Africa’s greatest wildlife corridors—an environment rich in biodiversity and natural beauty. On the other, it must navigate the complex challenges that come with human-wildlife coexistence.
Children walk to school along paths that may cross with wild animals. Villagers depend on traditional knowledge and resilience to manage their livelihoods, often blending modern needs with age-old customs.
Despite these challenges, there is a strong sense of community, tradition, and pride. Cultural heritage is passed down through storytelling, music, dance, and daily practices. Your guide—many of whom were born and raised in this region—will offer a personal perspective on how conservation, tourism, and cultural identity intersect in this remote corner of Botswana.

Night Safaris
(EXTRA)
Night drives, are a feature not commonly offered in many parts of Botswana. With over 30% of African wildlife being strictly nocturnal, these after-dark excursions open up a fascinating and often overlooked side of the bush. As the sun sets and the daytime animals retreat, a whole new world awakens — from elusive predators like leopard and hyena on the hunt, to shy creatures such as bush babies, aardvark, porcupines, and genets. Equipped with spotlights and guided by expert trackers, night drives offer an entirely different lens through which to view Africa’s wilderness — one that’s intimate, mysterious, and sometimes, surprisingly dramatic.
That said, night drives can be unpredictable — much like the rhythm of the African bush itself. During the winter months, temperatures after dark can drop significantly, so we strongly recommend bringing along a warm jacket, gloves, and a hat to ensure you're comfortable while out exploring under the stars. Whether it's the eerie call of a distant hyena or the gleam of eyes in the torchlight, a night drive is an experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Birding
(INCLUDED)
Birding at Mababe Mobile Camp is a captivating experience, set along the dynamic Khwai River, where the convergence of riverine woodland, open floodplains, mopane woodland, and dry savanna creates a mosaic of habitats ideal for an extraordinary variety of birdlife. The camp’s prime location allows guests to explore the Khwai Community Concession, a wildlife-rich corridor between Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park, which supports over 300 species of birds. Whether it’s the haunting call of a Pel’s Fishing Owl echoing through the riverine forest at dusk, or the vibrant flash of a Malachite Kingfisher diving along the riverbanks, the diversity of sightings keeps birders endlessly engaged.
Each morning begins with the symphony of bird calls as the floodplains come alive with activity—from flocks of African Openbills and Spur-winged Geese to the more elusive species like the Rosy-throated Longclaw or Dickinson’s Kestrel. The surrounding vegetation zones offer varied birding opportunities: riverine forests host turacos and kingfishers, while the mopane woodlands shelter hornbills, cuckoos, and raptors. The open grasslands and seasonal pans become ideal for ground-dwelling species such as Kori Bustards and Secretarybirds. At Mababe Luxury Mobile, birding is not just an activity—it’s a journey through one of Botswana’s richest ecological theatres.
