Mwiba Plains, Auberge Safari
When the rains arrive in the southern Serengeti, the short-grass plains of the exclusive-use Greater Mwiba Protected Wildlife Area turn emerald, and the landscape comes alive as the herds of the Great Migration arrive at their ancient calving grounds. Positioned at the heart of it all is Mwiba Plains.
The camp faces east, and at dawn the sun rises over open grassland, its light reaching the tents before anyone has stirred. After a day exploring the plains, dinner is served at lantern-lit tables. The night ends at the campfire, with conversation under a star-filled sky.
Accommodation
Ten tented rooms and one family unit stand well apart across the grassland, each opening directly onto the plains. Inside, earthy tones borrowed from the landscape are softened by layered textiles and lamplight. The tented rooms come in king or twin configurations, each with a dressing room with a double vanity and an en suite bathroom with a flushing toilet and a fully plumbed indoor shower.
The family unit has two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a shared lounge and sleeps up to two adults and two children under 16.
Experiences
The magic of Mwiba Plains is revealed in the first light of dawn, as wildlife meanders past your tent. From there, the plains take over — their furthest reaches are yours to explore with your private guide and vehicle. With no other operators in the exclusive-use protected wildlife area, you experience the Great Migration's calving season without competition for sightings or space.
Experiences at Mwiba Plains include day and night game drives, bush picnics, scenic sundowners, and visits to a nearby Datoga village. You can also arrange a private helicopter excursion at an additional cost.
