Mmatsebe Tented Camp

MmaTsebe Tented Camp is an owner-run, intimate safari camp set on 25 hectares of private land along the quiet Mbudi River, a tributary of the Khwai. Just outside the Moremi Game Reserve, the camp enjoys a peaceful setting away from the high-season crowds of central Khwai, while still offering easy access to some of Botswana’s most highly sought after wildlife areas with Game drives exploring both Moremi Game Reserve and the Khwai Concession.

Just a 20-minute drive from Khwai Airstrip, guests arrive to a relaxed, character-rich atmosphere where comfort and detail come together effortlessly.

An expansive dining and lounge area lies at the camps’ heart. High ceiling canvas on deck that encompasses comfort, characterful spaces and stunning views. By day, guests can stretch out in sun-drenched corners, drink in the wide blue sky, and feel completely immersed in the wilderness. By night, the same space transforms into a candlelit dining area beneath a canopy of stars.

A plunge pool and swimming pool deck offer a cool escape on warmer days, while the nearby boma becomes the gathering point for early morning coffees by the fire and evening nightcaps shared over safari stories.

There are nine spacious en-suite tents, each in a classic Meru style. Tents are either double or twin, have plush bedding with canopy mosquito nets and a ceiling fan above, a bathroom with shelving, a twin vanity and private flush loo and a unique log shower with hot water. Guests also have plug points in the rooms, a small office desk, a luggage rack and a shaded deck veranda.

Year-round guests of MmaTsebe have access to exceptional water activities from Mokoro excursions to Sitatunga’s Edge, a Xakanaxa boat experience that takes guests through Moremi and onto a double-decker pontoon boat prime for photographers and bird lovers – guests explore the winding waterways of the delta with lunch on board, before game driving back to camp through Moremi Game Reserve. Round off the safari with a view of the delta by air with helicopter scenics available from MmaTsebe taking one over the delta, into Tshodilo Hills or for a simple yet stunning champagne sundowner.

Dining in camp is either convivial or individual according to preference, with the MmaTsebe kitchen producing a menu rooted in simplicity but always full of colour and thoughtful twists, integrating Motswana cuisine into the dishes and inviting guests to experience the region’s culture through flavour, local ingredients and storytelling.

What sets MmaTsebe apart is its sense of character. The camp is filled with upcycled and antique pieces, hand-picked by its creative owners to give each space soul and story, from vintage lanterns to worn leather trunks and colourful woven baskets. Every detail is personal, from the furniture to the fabrics, creating a design that feels warm and eclectic.
