An early morning wake-up starts with a drive to the airstrip at sunrise for a 6:45am wheels up departure to view the majestic peaks of Mt Kenya from 15,000 ft. Taking off from the Lewa Airstrip gives you views of wildlife roaming the savannah before the aircraft starts to climb up over forests, farmlands, lakes, and hills. All the while you will have the clearest views of the snowcapped peaks.

This late afternoon sunset scenic flight takes you over the valleys and ridges to the north of Lewa and along the Ewaso Ng'iro river. Flying low level you will have the opportunity to witness the Samburu daily life and the chance to see the elephants along the river banks. You will land at a remote bush airstrip for sundowner drinks before taking off again to fly back to Lewa Wilderness.

Enjoy this exclusive opportunity to fish on South Island in Lake Turkana! Departing in the early morning from Lewa, you will fly north up the western side of the Matthews Range towards Lake Turkana. From the air you will see the striking change of environment, from the semi-arid Samburu lowlands to the deserts of northern Kenya. The southern shores of Lake Turkana will take your breath away as you fly low level across the waters before landing on South Island. Known as the Jade Sea due to its turquoise colour when seen from a distance, Lake Turkana has the unique distinction of being both the largest permanent desert lake and the largest alkaline lake in the world.

Upon landing on South Island, you will enjoy a morning of fishing for Nile Perch and Tilapia, either from the shores of the island, or from a boat on Lake Turkana before the heat of the day sets in. With over 60 recorded species of fish in the lake and more than 350 recorded species of birds on the island, the opportunities are endless for enjoying your morning in this secluded environment.

Light refreshments will be served before you fly back to Lewa in the late morning, where you will land in time to enjoy lunch back at your lodge on Lewa.
