Ecoterra Costa Rica La Fortuna to Guanacaste + Los Pumas Rescue Center
We start the journey in our comfortable microvans from La Fortuna to Guanacaste, popularly called
the Chorotega Region of Costa Rica, where the dry tropical forest is located.
Along the way, we will border the Arenal Lake renowned as the largest lake in Costa Rica and
recognized as a RAMSAR site of great importance for hydroelectric power generation. We will make a
short stop in the town of Tilaran or Nuevo Arenal to use the restrooms and stretch before continuing
our journey.
Once we have reached the town of CaƱas, we will visit the Los Pumas Rescue Center. This non-profit
organization aims to counteract the effects of hunting, deforestation, and the captivity of wild animals
in the Guanacaste area.
The idea of this visit is to learn about the importance of conservation in Costa Rica. We will have the
opportunity to see different species of animals that have been rescued and brought to the Rescue
Center with the intention of returning them to their natural habitat. Among the animal you may
observe a large quantity of wild cats, wild birds, and some other mammals such as monkeys and deer.
After learning about the conservation programs, management of wildlife, and environmental
education, we will head to the edge of the Corobici River for a delicious lunch in a restaurant with
amazing views of the Tenorio River and Volcano and its surrounding nature.
After lunch we will continue our journey towards the different destinations of Guanacaste such as
Liberia, Tamarindo, Conchal, Flamingo, El Coco, Papagayo, Hermosa, and other beaches of the region.
