The Sijwa Project
Created and driven by passion and purpose, The Sijwa Project was launched in 2018 with a vision to empower the local community through job creation, skills development, preservation of traditional knowledge, and environmental conservation.
The project creatively re-purposes recyclable waste generated by African Monarch Journeys and the surrounding community, transforming materials such as plastic, glass, and cans into beautiful, handcrafted art and saleable crafts.
The Sijwa Project incorporates:
Ø The Sewing Workshop
Ø The Glass Recycling Workshop
Ø The Aluminium Recycling Foundry
Ø The Bee & Honey Project | Combating Human-Elephant Conflict
Ø The Mushroom Project
Ø An organic permaculture nursery supplying fresh produce to both the local community and lodge guests, helping reduce the environmental impact associated with transporting food over long distances
Ø An artisanal skills training centre
Ø A free-range egg scheme
Ø An indigenous tree nursery
