Ecoterra Costa Rica Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge & Rio Frio Boat Trip

The **Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge**, near the Costa Rica-Nicaragua border, is one of the country’s most significant wetland areas and a RAMSAR site, recognized for bird migration and the protection of endangered species. The **Río Frío**, which nourishes the refuge, is the focus of our wildlife tour, offering ample opportunities for animal sightings. We depart **La Fortuna at 7:30 a.m.**, traveling through the San Carlos plains for about two hours, passing fields of pineapple, sugar cane, and livestock. Upon reaching **Los Chiles**, we board a comfortable motorboat with wide visibility, rain cover, and life jackets, piloted by an experienced boatman. Accompanied by professional **Naturalist Guides**, we will spend around **two hours** cruising the river, observing diverse wildlife, including monkeys, herons, sloths, iguanas, alligators, turtles, and countless plants that thrive in the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge. After the tour, we will enjoy a delicious **typical lunch** to recharge before heading back to La Fortuna in a comfortable, air-conditioned minibus with WiFi. This tour offers a unique opportunity to explore Costa Rica’s rich biodiversity in one of its most important natural reserves.
