Imagine gliding in through a lush rainforest, the calls of exotic birds echoing around you. This is just the beginning of your adventure in the Río Frio, the main water source for the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, a hidden gem teeming with Costa Rica's incredible biodiversity.
With luck, spot the majestic Jabiru, Central America's largest bird, and a variety of other threatened species alongside playful spider monkeys swinging through the vibrant canopy. Witness lots of resident and migratory birds along the year, from the prehistoric-looking Anhinga to the elegant Roseate Spoonbill.
Your experienced naturalist guide will lead you on a comfortable journey, first by bus to Los Chiles, a charming border town, then, embark on a thrilling 2.5-hour boat safari through the rainforest and along the Rio Frío. You will learn about the importance of environmental conservation and the fundamental role refuges and national parks play in protecting Costa Rica’s biodiversity.
Keep your eyes peeled for white face monkeys, three-toed sloths, and caimans; as well as your ears open to listen the howler monkeys' calls reverberate through the trees!
