Loapi, Tswalu

Pioneering and nomadic in spirit, Loapi is a collection of six individual safari homes surrounded by open savannah grasslands against the backdrop of the landmark Korannaberg mountains. Accommodating two or four guests, these private homes invite deep engagement with the southern Kalahari in all its unfettered, changeable beauty and offer the ultimate wilderness experience. There are four one-bedroom homes, each spanning over 300 square metres (approximately 3,200 square feet), and two two-bedroom homes, each covering over 400 square metres (approximately 4,600 square feet). Between each stand-alone residence, there are at least 50 metres (165 feet) to ensure privacy, solitude and seclusion.

In Setswana, Loapi means ‘the space below the clouds’, a description aptly reflected in the camp's environmentally sensitive, modular design, combining canvas, glass and steel. Uncluttered, sculptural interiors, enriched by nature’s colours, forms and shapes, optimise the sense of space and evoke the carefree, nomadic spirit of camping.

Each one- or two-bedroom home features an interactive kitchen, guest cloakroom, private study, and a generous shaded deck with a fire pit and plunge pool. Each home is managed by a dedicated homathi (house manager) and chef for the highest level of bespoke service. As with Tswalu's other luxury camps, every booking includes a private safari vehicle, as well as a dedicated guide and tracker.

The living and dining areas of each home are designed as contemporary glass and steel pavilions, forming the heart of the residence. These spaces include a private study, interactive kitchen, fully stocked pantry, and a bar. Outside, shaded decks provide areas for dining and lounging, while an environmentally friendly plunge pool and a fire pit offer settings for enjoying sundowners or morning coffee, immersed in the wild surroundings.

The bedrooms are cocoon-like sanctuaries under canvas, connecting guests to the sights and sounds of nature while providing exceptional comfort and insulation from the Kalahari’s extreme temperatures. Given that water is the Kalahari's most precious resource, all bathrooms feature a glass-walled shower and outdoor shower instead of a bathtub. Each bathroom also includes an integrated dressing room.
