Zomerlust Boutique Hotel
A new era begins for one of Paarl’s most recognisable historic addresses.
Set in the second-oldest building in Paarl’s historic quarter, Zomerlust is a thoughtfully revived 15-suite boutique hotel on Main Road, in the heart of the Western Cape Winelands. A place of refuge since 1792, this heritage property has entered a new chapter — elegant, contemporary and deeply connected to its past.
Zomerlust is not simply a restored building. It is a layered Winelands sanctuary where gardens, design, hospitality and gastronomy come together with a rare sense of ease. From the moment guests arrive, there is a feeling of stepping out of the noise of the outside world and into something slower, softer and more considered.
The hotel’s 15 rooms and suites are individually designed, each with its own story, colour palette, bespoke details and reimagined pieces from the original hotel. No two rooms are the same, yet each offers the same sense of generous comfort — from luxurious linens and handcrafted amenities to thoughtful in-room spoils and the signature Zomerlust scent.
The gardens are central to the Zomerlust experience. More than a backdrop, they are part of the property’s soul. Shaded paths, heritage trees, restored stone features and quiet corners invite guests to slow down and linger. The garden restoration was approached with care and respect for what already existed, preserving significant trees and honouring the memories many Paarl locals still hold of this special place.
Days at Zomerlust move gently between poolside stillness, garden walks and Afternoon Tea on the Sun Stoep. As evening settles, the focus shifts to SMEUL, the hotel’s fire-led restaurant by award-winning Chef Kevin Grobler. Here, smoke, flame and seasonality shape a dining experience that feels both primal and refined — rooted in heritage, but interpreted in an unmistakably modern way.
SMEUL forms part of the heartbeat of Zomerlust, offering lunch and dinner, as well as intimate private dining for up to 16 guests. The menu draws from local and seasonal ingredients, with fire-led cooking techniques that echo the way food would once have been prepared on the property centuries ago.
Perfectly positioned in Paarl, Zomerlust offers easy access to the wider Cape Winelands, including Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and surrounding wine estates, while remaining approximately 45 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. Secure on-site parking is available via the Rozenfontein entrance, allowing for a discreet and easy arrival experience.
At its heart, Zomerlust is about more than preserving heritage. It is about allowing that heritage to be felt, lived and quietly redefined — creating an experience that stays with guests long after they leave, and one they may well find themselves wanting to return to.
