The Silo Hotel

The Silo is a magical space towering above the V&A Waterfront, surrounded by the natural wonder of South Africa’s Mother City. This exclusive luxury boutique hotel has 28 rooms, including a spectacular penthouse. Each room is  individually designed and decorated by the stylish wand of owner Liz Biden. Colorful and eclectic pieces juxtapose the modern, industrial architecture. The 6 room categories are based on the room size and the views.  The rooms are more spacious vertically than horizontally due to the unique architecture of the building, which was designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio. He  ingeniously crafted The Silo in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex. From the outside, the greatest visible change to the building’s original structure is the addition of pillowed glazed window bays, inserted into the geometry of the hotel floors, which  bulge outward as if gently inflated. By night, this transforms the building into a glowing lantern or beacon in the harbor. The Silo occupies six floors above Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa) in Cape Town's V&A Waterfront precinct.  Zeitz MOCAA houses Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art. A range of dining options are available for in-house guests at The Silo.  This includes formal dining as well as more informal services such as an enticing raw bar serving wonderful carpaccios, tartars, crudités and ceviches. The food at The Silo reflects a glamorous, eclectic and contemporary feel while at the same time offering something authentic – classics are done properly without any artistic spin.  An element of theatre is brought to the dining experience with the beautifully hand-crafted champagne and cheese trolleys. Guests can look forward to approachable, contemporary comfort food including aromatic curries served in beautiful tiffin boxes.  Afternoon tea is served daily, allowing guests to enjoy a delicate selection of sweet and savoury treats, including beautiful petit gateaux, butter milk scones and clotted cream, served on a contemporary étagère at the copper topped tables of the Granary Café.
