Elevated atop an ancient granite outcrop, Mwiba Lodge stands sentinel over the Arugusinyai River gorge and the wooded wilderness of the exclusive-use Greater Mwiba Protected Wildlife Area that unfolds beyond. This is the true wild, where the sound of whistling thorns carries on the wind and nights are broken by distant leopard calls.

The lodge follows the line of the rock, leading from one viewpoint to the next. Raw stone, beaten copper, and hand-carved wooden details are woven into the architecture, with enough restraint to ensure the wilderness is always the main event. Around the main lodge, a cliffside infinity pool looks out over the landscape, and a jacuzzi sits tucked between the boulders. There is also a spa, a gym, and a library for moments between drives.

Accommodation

Ten suites are set along the outcrop and linked to the main lodge by wooden walkways. They are spaced for privacy, and each opens onto a private deck that looks over the wilderness below. The interiors balance raw and refined with hardwood floors, brass fixtures, and bespoke linen, while generous sofas, deep soaking tubs, and king beds counter the day's adventures.  

Suites feature an en suite bathroom with a twin vanity, bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers, and a flushing toilet. For families, interconnecting suites can sleep up to six guests, and a single bed can be added for children up to 15.

The experiences at Mwiba Lodge are as much about the people of this land as its wildlife. To walk the wilderness with the Hadzabe or to be welcomed into a Datoga village through song and dance is to understand the landscape in a way no game drive alone can offer.
