The Cavern Resort & Spa
The Cavern Resort & Spa, named after the infamous Cannibal Cavern, is nestled in the foothills of the Northern Drakensberg in the Amphitheatre World Heritage Site area. A place of captivating beauty, it is surrounded by majestic mountains, lush indigenous forests and clear ’berg streams.
The Cavern is home to Bushman paintings, age-old rock carvings and an interesting cannibal history – all in a natural setting, where bird, animal, tree and flower species flourish. It is also home to The Royal Drakensberg Primary School, founded in 2007 to uplift the local community. The journey to The Cavern is a beautiful country drive – 3.5-hours from Joburg or 3-hours from Durban.
The resort offers two types of comfortable accommodation – standard and superior. Standard rooms are set in landscaped gardens where a mix of vibrant indigenous plants attracts countless birds that fill the days with birdsong and the evenings with the sounds of crickets, frogs and other friendly creatures. Finely appointed superior suites overlook a beautiful ancient fern forest. Each has its own private patio where one can soak up the sun, listen to the forest streams and rejuvenate in the peace of our exquisite mountain wilderness.
