Saruni Mara

Tucked into a secluded valley in the heart of Mara North Conservancy, Saruni Mara sits on a hillside where indigenous forest gives way to sweeping views across the plains. Wildlife moves through the trees around you, grazes on the slopes below and fills the air with the soundtrack of the bush.

We’ve kept the lodge small by design: five cottages, a family villa and an exclusive-use private villa, each decorated to its own distinct theme. Under thatched roofs, the classic safari feel is personal rather than polished. The Private Villa comes with its own guide and vehicle, so meals and activities run entirely to your own timetable. When the day’s adventures wind down, guests gather around the fire, swapping stories as the darkness deepens and the stars take over.

Each stay includes a complimentary 30-minute massage per room at the Maasai Wellbeing Space, where trained Maasai therapists draw on traditional herbal knowledge.

Beyond the lodge, Mara North Conservancy is one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildernesses. It is community-owned and carefully managed, and borders the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve, but only guests of member camps can explore it. Fewer vehicles. Fewer footprints. The kind of encounters that feel genuinely private.

Your guides are Maasai warriors who have lived alongside this land their entire lives, and they share a profound, generations-deep relationship with it. On game drives by day and night and on guided bush walks, you begin to see the conservancy not just as a landscape, but as a living community of people and animals finding ways to thrive together. Families can join the Warriors Academy to learn tracking and survival skills, and excursions include Mount Kilileoni, the Ol Chorro Rhino Sanctuary and hot air balloon safaris.

Saruni Mara is a founding member of Mara North Conservancy. More than 80% of the team come from the local landowning community, and the lodge holds a Gold eco-rating from Ecotourism Kenya.
