NB: The South African Government has lifted the requirement for international travellers to produce unabridged birth certificates, but the Botswana Government still require all parents travelling with children under the age of 18 years to produce a certified copy of their Unabridged Birth Certificates. Both South Africa and Botswana, require a consent form if only one adult is travelling with a child/children under the age of 18 years. Failure to produce the necessary documentation may result in travellers being turned away at port of entry.

Local cuisine: Food centres around meat such as goat, beef, chicken and fresh water fish, and a maize meal known locally as “pap”.  Adventurous culinary enthusiasts may want to try the traditional speciality of Mopane Worms, while those with a sweet tooth should make sure to sample the local Kalahari Truffles (made as a dessert) and unusual fruit called Marula. It is believed that watermelon originated here.

Travelling with Minors

As of the 01 October 2016 minors travelling through Botswana’s borders will be required to produce certified copies of unabridged birth certificates in addition to their valid passports. In the event that one parent is not travelling with the child, the other parent’s affidavit consenting to such travel should be availed. However, an affidavit will not be required if the father’s name does not appear on the child’s birth certificate. Without the correct paperwork you will be prohibited from traveling to into Botswana. For further information and assistance we recommend you contact your local Botswana Embassy.

New Zimbabwe Immigration Requirement

To streamline and speed up the immigration process on arrival The Zimbabwe Immigration Department has implemented an online immigration declaration form that ideally, should be completed by all travellers prior to arriving at any Zimbabwean border post, including Victoria Falls Airport.

1. The intention is to have travellers complete the online form prior to arrival, in the comfort of their homes/office or whilst travelling and therefore speed up the process at the port of entry.  Wi-Fi will be necessary to complete the form.
2. If travellers are unable to complete the form in advance, they can do so upon arrival -either online (subject to Wi-Fi availability) using their own devices, or Immigration officials will provide access to devices at the port of entry.  Alternatively, guests may fill out the physical version provided by immigration.
3. If completed electronically prior to arrival, there is no need to complete the physical form on arrival.

This new online process will, in time, replace the manual immigration declaration form and is aimed at improving the guest experience at border control.
