Itinerary Terms and Conditions

Please note:

Drivers and guides are not allowed into Bole International Airport in Addis. Your guide will be waiting for you at the front of the car park as you leave the airport terminal.

Ethiopia has a cash-based economy. Few hotels, restaurants or shops take credit cards, and at those that do, the machines often don’t work. For any cash that you need, make use of the ATMs when you find them, in the larger towns.

Entry fees, and the hire of a local guide, are compulsory at historical and religious sites, and at national parks. Whether you want a local guide or not, you have to pay for one according to Ethiopian law. We have incorporated these charges into the total cost.

Hotels outside the major towns are rustic. The food served in restaurants and cafes outside the major towns tends to be Ethiopian with a few basic ‘international’ dishes such as pasta, pizza and burgers.

Phone network is good, and works almost everywhere in Ethiopia. Wifi tends only to work in the higher-end hotels, and even in these it is slow.

Temperatures are extreme. The Simien Mountains are at high altitude and can get very cold, especially at night. Addis, Gondar, Bahir Dar and Lalibela are temperate, with warm days and cool nights. Bring clothes for both high and low temperatures.

For walking around the churches and other sites, you will need comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen and a hat.

For the treks, you will need comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, a hat and a head torch.
