🌺 Sri Lanka: A Jewel of Biodiversity and Responsible Exploration
Sri Lanka is a truly remarkable island—compact in size at just 25,332 square miles, yet astonishingly rich in biodiversity. It boasts one of the highest rates of endemism in the world, with 16% of its fauna and 23% of its flowering plants found nowhere else on Earth.
Home to over 120 species of mammals, 171 species of reptiles, 106 species of amphibians, and 227 species of birds, the island is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Among its most captivating residents is our favourite big cat—the Sri Lankan Leopard.
Sri Lanka has long been on our radar, but we’ve waited patiently to curate an experience that balances exceptional wildlife encounters with low-impact tourism. Our goal has always been to venture far from the crowds, into places where nature thrives undisturbed—and we’re thrilled to say we’ve found just that.
Our intimate small-group safaris begin in Wilpattu National Park, where Leopards and Sloth Bears top the agenda. Night drives offer the chance to spot elusive smaller cats such as the Fishing Cat, Jungle Cat, and the rare Rusty Spotted Cat. From there, we’ll journey to either Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park, with the final choice determined by the seasonal movements of the majestic Asian elephant herds—both parks are easily accessible from our lodge.
A cornerstone of our Sri Lankan journey is the strong partnership we’ve built with local conservation-minded experts. These trusted collaborators provide first-class vehicles, knowledgeable guides, and seamless logistics, while actively supporting Leopard conservation initiatives across the island.
Of particular note is the Sri Lankan Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya)**, a unique subspecies endemic to the island and recognized as the largest leopard subspecies in the world. Protecting this magnificent predator is central to our mission—and your journey helps support that cause.
