This trip is for travel in the months July to October.
The migration is largely driven by the rains which determine when the animals start moving. It's worth bearing in mind that the rains cannot be timed exactly so the migration doesn't operate on a set schedule. Below is a basic outline of what happens between the months July to October:
June - The rains usually come to an end.
July - Normally the start of the dry season. The migration moves north east towards the Northern Serengeti.
August - The migration is concentrated in the Northern Serengeti, Crosses the Mara River to get to the sweet grasses of the Masai Mara.
September/early October - The migration is primarily in the Masai Mara in Kenya but herds can move backwards and forwards between both areas.
October - The herds start to move back into the Northern Serengeti from the Masai Mara to begin their movement southwards.
November - Start of the Southward movement of the migration in anticipation of the new season rains.
December - Calving starts.
