Safari Itinerary

Days: 1-4

OKAVANGO DELTA

On arrival in Maun, Botswana the guests will be met by a representative to assist them with their connection on to a light charter flight (scheduled service) to kala Camp. On arrival at the airstrip, guests will be met and transferred by motorboat to Kala Camp.

Situated 12kms southeast of Setari and 6kms south of Jedibe airstrip, Kala Camp hugs the banks of a seasonal river overlooking a palm forest island beyond. 

The area offers a watery paradise between the months of May and October where guests can enjoy boating and Mekoro rides from in front of camp and long walks on the nearby islands. 

Between October and May, the flood water recedes and the floodplains dry up attracting large herds of buffalo and elephant.  With the buffalo, lion are often found in the vicinity hoping for a feast!  As well as the larger game, the birding in the area is also varied and plentiful.

Safaris from Kala are seasonal and between April and September, boating and mokoros are available as well as the opportunity to go and explore the Delta on foot on a walking safari.  Between October and March, the focus at Kala is more walking safaris as well as mokoro safaris depending on water levels.

During the 3 Nights stay guests will get to do guide led activities: Bird Watching, Boating, Helicopter Scenic Flights (additional costs), High Tea, Mokoro Excursion, and Walks (Guided)

KHWAI PRIVATE RESERVE

After breakfast, guests will be transferred to the airstrip in time for the scheduled transfer by light aircraft to Little Sable for the next 3 Nights.

Little Sable is where guests will spend their next three nights. This intimate, tented safari camp is located amid the water channels and shimmering grasslands of the Khwai Private Reserve. Up here, there’s something to see around every corner and a different activity to enjoy every day, from classic game drives to mokoro trips and boat safaris.

The reserve is bordered by Moremi to the south, Savuti to the north and the Khwai Community Reserve to the east – in other words, in the middle of some of the most famous and iconic game-viewing areas on the continent!

The varied habitats of Khwai support an equally impressive cast of animals and all the stars of the wildlife show are present – as well as a few extra. The wetlands and rivers host impressive quantities of lechwe, hippos and crocodiles, whilst on dry land, big cats lurk along tree lines and sometimes right through camp. Sable, roan, impala, and kudu dot the grasslands, alongside giraffe and zebra, an abundance of elephant and buffalo, and of course, the occasional jackal.

The birdlife is fantastic, and guests can expect everything from giant eagle owls to lilac-breasted rollers. Khwai also has an excellent reputation for the rarer species of the African savannah including wild dogs, serval cats, honey badgers, and the elusive pangolin.

Activities to enjoy at Little Sable:

• Punt through the waterways of Khwai on a mokoro (dugout canoe) excursion or boat trip (water levels permitting).
• Try fishing (01 Mar – 31 Dec); fishing is not permitted from January to February due to breeding season).
• Spend a night sleeping under the stars at the Skybeds platforms – it’s certainly a night to remember! (Must be pre-booked; Skybeds is only open from the 1st April to the 31st October).
• Visit one of the underground hides by helicopter for a truly up-close-and-personal encounter with the wildlife (this activity is at an additional cost. For a guaranteed hide visit, it’s best to book an overnight stay at Skybed’s ).
• Go on a thrilling helicopter flight over the Okavango Delta (at an additional cost).
• Be part of the KPR Ranger Experience and spend time tracking predators, capturing data, patrolling and if time allows visiting conservation projects. This activity is at an additional cost and proceeds of this activity are allocated to conservation efforts in the concession.
• Visit Khwai Village to learn about local culture, history and traditions of the local community. Guests will visit the Kgotla, Pre-Primary School, basket weavers and meet a traditional healer.

Days: 7-10

CHOBE RIVER FRONT

After breakfast, guests will be transferred to the airstrip in time for the scheduled transfer by light aircraft to Kasane International Airport for the Chobe experience.

Encounter the biggest elephant herds in the world. Explore the Chobe National Park via the majestic waters of the Chobe River.

The guests ‘stay at Chobe Safari Lodges would enable them to enjoy 1x Boat Cruise, 1x Game Drive, 1x Private Boat Cruise, 1x unguided Victoria Falls Day Trip and 2-days Park Fees

The guided Victoria Falls Day Trip can be exchanged for 2x alternative Chobe activities (including park fees) such as boat cruise, game drive, Namibian village walk or 2-hour fishing on the Chobe River. Surcharge applicable for a guided Victoria Falls day trip.

Day 10: End of Safari

After a final morning activity, guests will depart the camp for Kasane Airport where they will continue with onward travel arrangements.
