Costa Rica has the highest biodiversity of any nation of its size, and our itinerary focuses on two key habitats in this extraordinary country.  Travelling by road, plane, boat and on foot, we will explore the stunning Caribbean coast and the unique cloud forest of Monteverde.

The Caribbean coast is renowned for its unique blend of natural beauty, diverse ecosystems, and vibrant culture.  Characterised by lush rainforests, pristine beaches, and meandering waterways, it is a biodiversity hotspot, teeming with a wide variety of flora and fauna. The region's tropical climate, ample rainfall, and lush vegetation provide a habitat for numerous species of plants, insects, mammals, and birds.  It's also home to a rich blend of cultures, including Afro-Caribbean, indigenous, and European influences. This cultural diversity is reflected in the music, food, and way of life in the region, making it a unique and vibrant part of Costa Rica.

The Parque Nacional Cahuita has stunning coral reefs, so snorkelling here allows you to explore a kaleidoscope of marine life, including colourful fish, sea turtles, and even nurse sharks. The lush rainforest is inhabited by Sloths, Howler Monkeys, White-faced Capuchin Monkeys, and various species of frogs, snakes and birds.

Parque Nacional Tortuguero is a birdwatcher's paradise with over 400 bird species, including Toucans, Parrots, Herons, and Kingfishers.  We will boat on the park's intricate network of rivers and canals, providing excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, looking out for Caimans, River Otters, and a plethora of aquatic birds.

Monteverde, located in the rugged interior of Costa Rica, is a truly special destination renowned for its stunning cloud forests.  These high-altitude rainforests are often shrouded in mist and clouds, creating a mystical and ethereal atmosphere. The moisture from the clouds supports a lush and diverse ecosystem and is home to an astonishing array of plant and animal species, many of which are rare and endemic to the area. Over 2,500 plant species, hundreds of orchids, and countless animals can be found.  The region boasts over 400 bird species, making it one of the top birding destinations in the world. Monteverde's most sought-after avian species include the Resplendent Quetzal, Three-wattled Bellbird, and the Emerald Toucanet.
