Introduction

This fresh water lake is part of the Greta Rift Valley. Lake Naivasha derives its name from the local Maasai name Nai'posha, meaning "rough water" because of the sudden storms which can arise.

Hippos, giraffes, buffaloes and zebras are just a few of the species that thrive at the lake and its surrounding swamps and grasslands.
