The Brazilian Savannah - The Cerrado.
The Cerrado is the second-largest biome in South America, covering approximately 2 million square kilometres, or 21% of Brazil's land area. It consists of a mosaic of habitats, including savannahs, grasslands, and gallery forests, home to an incredible array of flora and fauna.
It is the most biodiverse savannah in the world, hosting over 10,000 plant species, with around 44% being endemic. Among these plants, the most iconic is the twisted, gnarled-looking "cerrado tree," which has adapted to withstand the region's harsh conditions.
The fauna of the Cerrado is equally impressive, with more than 800 bird species, 150 mammal species, 120 reptile species, and 90 amphibian species. Some emblematic animals include the Maned Wolf, Giant Anteater, Pampas Deer, Armadillo, Tapir and Titi Monkey.
