Tourism, Local Taxes & Conservation Fees
Tourism Tax: The Tourism and Culture Minister of Malaysia has announced that the Tourism Tax (TTX) in Malaysia will be collected from 1st September 2017. Foreign tourists will be charged a flat rate of MYR10.00 per room per night for all hotel classifications. The tax will be collected directly from the hotels (all types of accommodation).
Local Government Tax and Conservation Fee: Some areas are subject to local taxes and conservations fee. Examples of local government tax is for Penang and Langkawi. Conservation fees are normally paid if you are staying or visit National and Marine Parks. Examples can be TAR Marine Park - Kota Kinabalu, Perhentian Islands & Redang Island. The taxes/fees will be collected directly from the accommodations and/or operators.
