  • Escape the crowds. There is no modern development on the island and only 2 park rangers as residents. Guests feel like they have escaped to their own private island – away from traffic, emails, and every day stresses – making Maria Island the perfect place to relax and recharge.
  • Gentle Walking. You don’t need to be an experienced bushwalker to enjoy the Maria Island Walk. Guests walk on flat, hard sand beaches or well-worn trails at a gentle pace. The longest walk is approximately 13kms over a period of 4-6 hrs walk time. (Mountain walks are optional.)
  • Light Packs. Guests carry just light packs with their own personal items, weighing 6-8kgs.
  • Small Groups. The Maria Island Walk is a highly personal and intimate experience with nature. There are a maximum of 10 guests on each departure.
  • Expert Guides. Our expert guides will become your client’s best friends; from sharing fascinating stories of Maria Island’s rich history, to topping up your wine glass, nothing is too much for our friendly guides (2 guides accompany every trip.)
  • Exclusive Accommodation. We have 2 exclusive wilderness camps – both just a stone’s throw from white sand beaches. The sites are environmentally sensitive and guests sleep in comfortable, twin share tented cabins. The final night is spent at the fully restored, colonial Bernacchi House, which has the charm and facilities of a B&B, including hot showers.
  • Gourmet Tasmanian Food & Fine Wine. Each night our guests enjoy 3 course gourmet meals by candlelight, with an emphasis on local Tasmanian producers. Did we mention food tastes better after bushwalking?
  • No 2 days are the same. The magic of Maria Island is the diversity. Walk stunning white sand beaches in the morning; discover a UNESCO World Heritage convict site at lunch time. Explore ancient blue gum forests, a world-class fossil site, painted cliffs – Maria Island will amaze you!
  • Close encounters with Tasmanian wildlife. Maria Island is often referred to as the ‘Noah’s Ark’ for Tasmanian wildlife. The island is a protected animal sanctuary and most guests will have very close encounters with wombats, Bennet’s wallabies and forester kangaroos! Maria Island is one of the only places in the world where guests can see Tasmanian Devils in the wild. Guests have also spotted dolphins, whales, echidnas, fairy penguins and many endemic Tasmanian bird species (such as the rare forty-spotted pardalote, which has a stronghold on Maria Island).
  • All Inclusive. Leave your wallet behind – gear, transfers, park passes, food & wine – everything is included!
  • Multi Award Winning. We are one of the most awarded tourism experiences in Tasmania, with awards including the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, Tasmanian Tourism Awards, Australian Gourmet Traveller Awards and more.
