The Kafue has justifiably emerged as a critical destination for a safari to Zambia is home to possibly the most varied wildlife of any African Park and yet with still just a few safari camps. Meeting other visitors is rare, and having the bush to yourself is incredible.

The safari will take you on a journey, uncovering the incredibly varied wildlife that exists amongst the shady Miombo woodlands on the seasonal Oxbow lagoons (knows as 'Dambos'), along the clear waters of the Kafue River and on the breathtaking vastness of the Busanga Plains.

We will be on safari during the dry season and hope to encounter the Kafue's many and diverse antelope species, including Roan, Sable, Hartebeest, Wildebeest, and Puku, Oribi and Red Lechwe, to name just a few. Predators are thriving, with a healthy population of Lions spread across the Kafue. Leopards stalk the shadows in the woodland, Cheetah, and Serval often seen on the plains and clearings. Wild dogs are here; although they remain a hard spot, sightings increase as the dry season passes.

Birds are a big part of any Kafue safari, with an impressive list of over 500 species. There are at least two endemics and lots of small colourful species from Kingfishers and Finches to Turaco and many large raptors.

You will be staying at three authentic safari camps, Musekese Bush Camp, Ntemwa, and Kaingu River Lodge. Each safari camp is in a very different habitat, and all are hidden away in remote locations. Comfort levels are high. You will be charmed by the surroundings and the dedicated teams who will do their best to make you feel at home in the bush.

Time in the camp between forays into the bush is a chance to relax and enjoy the tranquillity and the company of the delightful camp staff who are always very engaging, your fellow guests and hosts.

Tony McKeith will be on hand throughout to ensure you get the most from your safari, working with the resident guides in camp, using their current information on game movements and their bush skills to generate as many great wildlife sightings as we can.

You will experience the bush in a variety of ways.

Game Drives in open vehicles during the early part of the day and in the afternoon, making the most of the best light.  Afternoon game drives stay out until after dark to search out nocturnal species, a great way to end a day in the bush. There will be a chance to explore River safaris in purpose-built boats, which are just magical on gentle Walking Safaris and simply sitting on the deck in camp or your private Chalets watching as the wildlife comes to you.
