Introduction

Dear Nxai Traveller

Botswana Birding & Photographic Safari

Camps: 3 Nights Chobe Bakwena (FI)+ 3 Nights Bushman Plains (FI) + 3 Nights Camp Khwai  (FI)+ 3 Nights Cha Cha Metsi (FI)

Overview

This multi-camp safari combines the year-round wildlife density of the Chobe region, the bird-rich floodplain and woodland habitats around Camp Olas, the classic game-viewing and photography appeal of Khwai, and the permanent-water Delta atmosphere of Chacha Metsi. It is designed for guests who want strong birding, varied photographic conditions, and a route that works well in every season, from dry-season concentration around water to green-season birds, dramatic skies, and lush landscapes. Year-round safari appeal is supported by the fact that dry periods concentrate wildlife around water sources, while the wet season brings lush scenery and excellent birding opportunities.

Summary

Duration: 12 nights. Route: 3 nights Chobe Bakwena, 3 nights Bushman  Plains, 3 nights Camp Khwai, and 3 nights Chacha Metsi. Best suited to: birders, photographers, wildlife enthusiasts, couples, and repeat Botswana travellers looking for a varied all-season safari with both river and Delta environments.

Highlights

  • Strong year-round wildlife viewing in Chobe, where animals are often drawn to permanent water during drier periods.

  • Excellent birding potential across riverine, woodland, floodplain, and Delta habitats, especially in the wetter months when migratory and resident birdlife is at its most active.

  • A photographic progression from Chobe’s big-river scenes to Khwai’s game-rich mosaic landscapes and Chacha Metsi’s water-and-light Delta setting.

  • A flexible all-season product with good appeal in both dry season and green season, making it suitable for broad market positioning.

  • Strong specialist value for clients seeking a route that balances classic wildlife, birds, reflections, and scenic diversity.

  • Chobe Bakwena (3 Nights): High-density elephant action, spectacular river sunsets, and boat-based photography.

  • Bushman Plains (3 Nights): Dry-land tracking, macro photography on walking safaris, and striking cultural portraits.

  • Camp Khwai (3 Nights): High-action predator photography, off-roading, and night drives along the Khwai River.

  • Cha Cha Metsi (3 Nights): Deep-water Okavango reflections, aquatic birds, and completely silent, low-angle mokoro shooting.

Detailed Itinerary

Days 1 to 4: Chobe Bakwena

Begin with three nights in the Chobe area, where riverfront wildlife viewing, elephant activity, and strong birdlife set the tone for the safari. This section is ideal for photography because the landscape offers open river scenes, animals at the water’s edge, and productive early-morning and late-afternoon light. In the dry season, game concentrations around water are especially reliable, while the wetter months add fresh vegetation, active birding, and more atmospheric skies.

Days 4 to 7: Bushman Plains

Continue to Bushman Plains for three nights in a quieter habitat mix that adds variety to the route. This stop is well suited to bird photography, smaller wildlife sightings, and scenic compositions that contrast with the broader Chobe river frontage. The camp works well in all seasons because birding improves in greener months, while wildlife remains active around key habitat features through the dry months as well.

Days 7 to 10: Camp Khwai

Move on to Camp Khwai for three nights in one of Botswana’s most versatile wildlife and photographic areas. Khwai offers excellent opportunities for game drives, predator interest, birds, and rich habitat diversity, making it a strong mid-route stop for both action and landscape photography. The area’s appeal is year-round, with the dry season improving visibility and the green season adding dramatic cloudscapes, lush grass, and strong bird activity.

Days 10 to 13: Chacha Metsi

Conclude with three nights at Chacha Metsi, where the safari shifts into a permanent-water Delta mood with reflections, wetland birds, and a slower photographic rhythm. This is an especially appealing finish for photographers because the camp’s setting supports soft light, water surfaces, and layered wildlife compositions. The Delta environment remains rewarding across seasons, with different strengths depending on water levels, bird activity, and vegetation density.

Day 13: Departure

Depart after a final morning in camp, with onward arrangements coordinated according to the guest’s routing, transfer plan, or extension requirements.

NB!!!

This safari is best positioned as an all-season photographic and birding circuit for Botswana. It gives clients a logical progression from high-density wildlife to mixed woodland and floodplain habitats, then finishes with a classic Delta water camp. Because year-round safari quality comes from different seasonal strengths rather than one single “best” month, the itinerary can be sold consistently across the calendar.
