Introduction

Discover Babanango Game Reserve on foot, 20,000ha of wilderness in the heart of Zululand

If you are up for the challenge, join us for this 4-day Walking Safari in the Valley of the Kings, birthplace of the legendary King Shaka Zulu. Walk along the banks of the White Umfolozi, climb over some of the oldest geological rock formations on Earth and be a part of the most ambitious rewilding project in Zululand.

  • 4/5 walking difficulty
  • Ultra-luxurious stay at Madwaleni River Lodge's tented camp
  • Key points of interests: summer birding, geology, history

Nestled in mountains and valleys that date back to the beginning of time and steeped in Zulu history, the reserve is home to an abundance of endemic fauna and flora, including diverse cat species, endangered aloes, over 313 birds and 14 antelope species including the endangered oribi. The African Elephant has recently been reintroduced to the area, making Babanango Game Reserve Big 5.
