This safari focuses on the wildlife opportunities in three national parks. Sasan Gir is the last remaining habitat of Asiatic Lions. This is the only place in the world, outside of Africa, where you can see lions roaming free in the wild. Pench, the setting for Kipling's The Jungle Book, is one of the lesser-known parks but with rising numbers of tigers. It is also known as a birder's paradise with around 250 species. Tadoba, known for its tiger density, also reports good sightings of leopards and wild dogs.
The bark of a Spotted Deer is quickly echoed by Sambar, and from the trees, Langurs' harsh warning is often the announcement that a tiger is close by. The sheer unadulterated magnificence of a tiger brings a surge of excitement and a little intimidation. You will never forget your first truly wild tiger sighting.
Sloth Bears are fierce defenders of their patch in the forest and avoided even by tigers. Whilst harder to spot, this is a creature we will endeavour to encounter in Pench and Tadoba,
There are many and various mammals to see. Indian Leopard, Gaur, Nilgai, Dhole, Striped Hyena, Indian Civet, Jungle Cat, Sambar, Barking Deer, Chital, Chausingha and Honey Badger. And myriad colourful birds and butterflies.
