- Travel Insurance - Emergency medical evacuation insurance is obligatory. Insurance to cover the cost of your trip is recommended.
- The Moroccan currency is called the dirham, and the best way to obtain cash is to use your Debit Card at local ATMs that are readily available in each city. The current exchange rate is ~10 dirhams per $1 USD. You can also convert cash from USD or Euros at local cash points, but the conversion rate tends to be 10-15% higher than the one you would obtain at an ATM.
- A few reference price points:
Moroccan Slippers (typical souvenir): 150-400 dirhams ($15-$40)
Water bottle 6 dirhams (60¢) - Tips for your guides and driver is left at your discretion. If you would like to tip, a customary range would be $30-$40 USD per day for your driver and $40-$60 USD per day for your guide.
- It's always thoughtful to express your gratitude to the bellboys for their assistance. Tipping between $2 to $5 USD per interaction is considered
respectful. However, in the case of groups with numerous luggage, a minimum tip of $10 USD is appropriate to acknowledge the extra effort they put in to accommodate your needs. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated by the staff. - Keep valuables in a safety wallet or in a hotel safety deposit box. Make sure there's nothing important in outside or back pockets.
- Hustlers can be an annoyance - if you're accosted by someone offering directions, tips, henna tattoo, etc. politely but firmly refuse their services and keep walking.
