A country like no other
Malawi holds around 650 bird species in a country smaller than England — a place where the southern and East African zones overlap, giving it more than seventy species found nowhere south of the Zambezi. This is a journey built for the green season, when the migrants are in, the land is lush, and the country is at its most scenic.
Over sixteen nights, you will move through a wide array of habitats: the miombo woodlands of Dzalanyama, the high montane grasslands of Nyika Plateau, the forested shores of Lake Malawi, and the floodplains of the Shire River in Liwonde. It is a route designed to find the birds — and to feel the rare, generous spirit of Malawi along the way.
Why this journey?
Guided throughout by Mike Mvula (driver-guide) and Whyte Mahone (specialist bird guide), travelling with the group from the first morning to the final departure.
With an expected bird count and variety too long to list here (see individual destination in the day-by-day section), expert guides, and visits to the most sought-after birding destinations in central-southern Africa, this tour is arguably the best Malawi birding itinerary possible.
With guides, all meals, stays in very comfortable and well-located lodges, and transport throughout, the tour is excellent value. We also offer the usual flexibility to tailor it into a personalised itinerary.
Expertly guided throughout with a single small group, one vehicle and two specialist guides. This tour can be booked for 1-6 travellers, on an exclusive basis, with departures at any available date within the season.
