Introduction

23 Jul 2021 - 27 Jul 2021

Join Helena and Grant and a small group in July 2021 on an exciting photographic trip along the beautiful Chobe River.

One of the reasons why this trip is a favourite photographic safari destination for us is because of the high quality photo opportunities and the comfort of the boat

It takes place in the dry season, which means that many animals will approach the river for water during the course of the day.  The trip is also special because of the variety of animals that we are able to get close to from the perspective of the water-level provided by the specially designed photographic activity boat.  We would normally expect to get close to elephants, hippopotamus, Nile crocodiles, waterbuck, buffalo, impala, lechwe and puku.  The bird activity during this time of the year normally includes some nesting behaviour and that can lead to special photographic opportunities where birds are observed feeding young ones.  The timing of breeding amongst some bird species varies year to ear but some species we might expect to enjoy viewing would be Yellow-billed Storks, African Skimmers, Pied Kingfisher, Giant Kingfisher, Malachite Kingfisher.  A host of other waterbirds are encountered every day on the river and the Chobe is one of the best places to see interaction between species.  An advantage of the fact that this part of the Chobe is in a national park and see a host of visitors through the year is that many of the birds and the other wildlife are accustomed to boats and that makes them really relaxed photographic subjects.
